Roots Update

It has been 2 weeks since I put the cuttings to root and I am absolutely thrilled with the results with the sp moss!!  Everything in the sp moss hasn't rooted yet, but I am confident they will!!
Here are some pictures taken a few minutes ago

I also put some in cups with sp moss, and some with perlite.  I can't tell if anything is happening with them yet.  I am thinking of dumping them out and putting them in the moss.

That's after only three weeks?
Awesome!

Looking good there Jo-Ann.

Wow that's great Jo-Ann . It's so satisfying when you see roots!

Yipeee, you are on your way JoAnn. Please keep us posted.  Great job.

I agree.  Sp moss has been more consistent for me too.  Your roots look very healthy and strong!

Great photos and great results on the rooting!

Thanks for sharing!

That's incredibly fast results JoAnn, what else are you doing that you can share with us?

I am still amazed how people handle those still very young/tender/very-fragile exposed fig-twig-roots...

What happens after potting up?
How do you do it?

I always said that moss was the way to go its almost fool proof I know thats just my opinion and what works for me might not for you but I personally have never heard of anyone not being able to root with moss ?? but I have definitely heard of people not being able to root with other methods or should I say the percentage is better with the moss from what I can see on the forum good job Jo-Ann they look great.

I just discovered 2 of my Dodatto cuttings had roots similar to Jo-Ann's and I just left the sphagnum clinging to them and cupped them up in peat and perlite.  Didn't want to touch those fragile roots!

I'm with you Anthony!  I love the results I get with sphagnum moss!

I put them in a bin/tote with sp moss.  I soaked the moss for a minute or 2, and squeezed the crap out of it, put a layer of moss down, layed the cuttings on top, (some were treated with hormone, some weren't and I think I scared all of them but don't remember) added more moss.  The bins that had multiple varieties I put parchment paper between the layers and labeled to help keep them organized.  There are bins on a shelf about 5' high and in the corner where the heated air is aimed and above the refrigerator where the heated air is aimed also.  I peaked in every day or 2 just because I had to!  If the moss seemed excessively dry, I moistened some and mixed it with the rest.

Now, how to handle cupping them with soil is another story lol,  I have to admit I am a bit concerned about breaking some, I'll just have to be very careful!

thats why i do it right in the pots. or cups i should say. i started using 16 oz plastic cups after i seen some post about them. now i wonder why i wasted my time with pots.

Jo-Ann just leave whatever moss sticks to them on it. It makes no difference it will break down in the soil/perlite in time its perfectly fine thats how I do it and havent lost any yet the roots will be just fine leave them in the moss longer then you think you should there will be so many roots you could lose half and it wouldnt matter.PS the pic with the most roots let them all get double to triple that amount of roots and then just pot them up they will be fine dirt in cup/pot cutting and then more dirt water in and let drain DONE!!!

I started some in perlite and some in perlite/moss  both types in 16oz cups.   I haven't seen any signs of new life from them - maybe I'll take them out and put them in sp moss.

EXELLENT ..............Idea I love moss
