rootstock

Hi everyone!
Today I was digging up my Celeste I planted earlier in Spring.  It was no doing good in that spot. So when digging it up I discovered it had alot more roots (including a tap root growing upward???) than I thought it would. I was pulling the St. Augustine grass off of the rootball and accidently pulled a Big root with a small rootsystem attached off of the side of the trunk.  I stuck it in a pot with potting soil but I was wondering, can you do anything with the rootstock like that? I have started a tree with a piece of trunk and rootstock attached but never just roots.. Any ideas? Thanks :)
Kim

You know i would have done the same thing potted it up and see what happens, i have gooten roots with a sucker  growing just under soil with a leaf above ground and potted and it grew. But you never know i guess its well worth a try.

Martin,
Well I feel more confident now since you would do the same thing. I wasnt sure if I was fooling myself trying with roots but it was a big one just under the surface of the dirt. So yours had a sucker with a leaf? Do you still have it?

I'd be curious to know what happens and what happened with Martin's. Cute picture Kim.

No i gave plant away, im not sure how a root would turn into a plant mine was not like that it. I one day just saw a very small green stem sticking out with a bud that i let turn into a leaf, it was growing next to bottom of trunk, i just slid knife down at that part into dirt till i hit something not far down when i cut off main trunk it had some tiny roots on stem so it grew when it was put in potting soil. Just a root i dont know what would happen i thought i saw a posting about it on 1 of the forums. Hope this helps.
