Rotten VdB

We harvested the first two VdB figs of the season this week and they were both rotten inside. The first one was picked as it was starting to shrivel a bit, as I like them super-ripe. The second was picked at maximum swell in an attempt to get it before it went bad. I have never had problems with critters getting into the eye of this variety before. Is there anything I can do to keep the rest of the harvest from going bad? This has been a very dry year in SoCal, so I don't expect a humidity/moisture issue. I guess I will check if the sprinklers are hitting it.

Apple Maggot bags. They are basically little nylon footies and you just put them over the fig and lightly wrap the open end over the fig stem once or twice to secure. Keeps out the fruit flys and wasps for me. I don't use them until I notice a problem, but when needed they work like a charm.
