Rubado

I have had questions to this fig, which I have, I can say for certainty it is not the same as a Negronne. My Rubado came to me directly from Sergio, in Genoa along in same package a beautifully (already rooted) Negretta stump still with dirt on a couple years ago.Sergio I have trusted highly for different fig information especially to those indiginous to the Liguria/Toscana area N.W Italia.... The leafs shapes of Rubado are similar to Negronne but the leaves have subtle differences. The fruit which I have tasted the first year must be left to ripen completely, and crack the fruit is light with tinged of red or purple (tinged). IT is not a black fruit. the inside is red. The taste is very good! will be better this year, but that is always in the tongue of beholder, alot of what I like in fig is not the same with everyone tastewise!!

there are some information regarding this variety on the net.

http://www.pomonaitaliana.it/pomona/fico_rubado.htm

and also in jon's database.

"Bordeaux is a French region which grows many varieties of figs. Condit's Bordeaux is usually and appropriately called Negronne in Bordeaux (after the town of Negronne which is apparently its place of origin) . Giorgio Gallesio coined the Cuore, which means "heart-shaped," in 1817 for the fig already known as Rubado in Liguria. "

would love to see some pix for the ripe fig.

Thank you bullet for showing me why I have been asked if Rubado is Negronne! I know the cuore name for the rubado as well, which is long excepted depending where you are,, but I did not understand why the placement of Rubado to Negronne!! Now I see it on this website. I think it was explaining synonyms for same tree in different locale but not necessarily meaning that they are the same because they are not. My Rubado is not Negronne! Thank you for helping me. I didn't understand the questions as they are two completely different figs! I will certainly post pixx when they are ripe this year. I have been very tied up last year or so, I didn't even update website much!  ciao

Looking forward to seeing the pictures Maggie.

Nice to see you post  Maggie.  ; )

:)  I have much pics to take and alot of updating to do! ciao Martin!

Hello Maggie, it's good to see you posting again!  I like reading your post.  You and a few others have some rare figs and I like reading the history of them even if some are unknowns.  Thanks!

This is one of my prettiest tress. Hoping to get some figs this year.

thanks snagl! appreciate your nice words! Jose, you will not be disappointed, on my mouth it is very very tasty!

Welcome back, Maggie!  I hope the next few years are much better for you!

Oh thank you Rcantor! Yes, with a few deaths and depression from the bad days, it was very bad! But I'm pretty tough I have snapped back more now!

I also have Rubado started last year from cuttings (thank you Sergio!).
Now is first year in ground, it has small figlets on it.
When is this supposed to be ripen, late season?

Too bad that Pomona Italian site has been closed, they had very nice drawings
and description of italian ancient fig cultivars, which now are lost for the most of us.
