Hi quackmaster,
I once read, that when starting an orchard, you should plant twice the number of trees and then remove the ones that perform poorly when the space gets full .
In the first years, the trees won't fill up the allocated space - and so you can easily do it in fact.
I just did that, and have young trees every 2 meters . In some years, I'll remove the bad ones, or trim them all to leave space for them all - In zone7 in open field, I don't expect to have big trees - all under 2,50 meters of height.
With figtrees, this means that in some years you'll have plenty of cuttings and root shoots, to start a new orchard if by that time you then have an opportunity to do so.
Else, you'll still be taking avantage of all the fruits being produced by those more trees ... Still a good plan , Or ?
How far from each over are your trees ? What have you planned ?
