Hi, I understand that fig roots can be destructive to hardscaping elements (patio, driveway, house foundation) and I've been wondering if there are any ways to make it safer. I have a few prime spots right along (2 feet from) a concrete block wall and it would just be so great if I could plant some there. Of course a young tree would not be an issue, I just don't want to give myself a problem 10 years down the road.

Would Violette de Bordeaux be pretty safe? How about digging trenches leading away from the wall and filling them with amended soil? Only watering the non-wall side of the tree? I don't want to do anything drastic or costly, and I don't want to plant a potted tree. I hope Pitanga might weigh in, I remember he has his Vista planted right next to his house.

Thanks
