Saint Anthony and Papa John

Here are some pics I took yesterday evening of these two.  The taste profile for St. Anthony was mildly sweet with a suttle figgy flavor.  I think I may have picked it a day early, it was starting split and I didn't want it to spoil.  The Papa John is my wife's favorite fig, so I'll go with her description for that one - Sweet, but not too sweet; figgy, but not too figgy...a perfect blend of the two... My St Anthony fig came from pitangadiego via ebay.  In the description of the variety on the figs 4 fun varieties page, it notes "a large yellow fig", but then the pictures there are a darkish fig like the one i have pictured.  I do not know the source of the conflicting depictions of this variety.  Just realized the pics of the eyes were not included, so here they are...

My St Anthony fig came from Bass. I have also read that it may be the same as the white fig which I also have in the ground.  My St Anthony is still in a small pot only about six inches tall, but it did make a fig that was similar to my in ground white fig.

Well Karl, that just adds to the confusion...lol. How's that Genovese doing? I repotted the black Madeira you traded me into a high organic pitting mix, and it is loving life...probably put on 5 inches of new growth and 5 or 6 figs...couldn't be happier with the trade hope we can continue to share varieties in the future...

Waited a day too late but I was able to taste one wasn't bad to say it was grown in a pot, will wait till its older and will taste again lol.

I purchased a one gallon St. Anthony from Jon. it has put on enough growth to up-pot to a 3 gallon but has not put on any figs. I hope the eye is not as open as your photo. On a St. Anthony forum search, there seems to be confusion about this variety.

If it's from the same accession as the one Jon sent me, it appears it will have an open eye.  I've had fairly good figs off of this potted tree, but all in all I don't think it is at it's peak in the southeast.  Good luck with yours...
