So, I thought I had a Gino's Black, but it appears it's probably a Sal EL/Gene. I'm sad.
I will say this, of the two:
HdA had a simpler flavor. It wasn't so much figgy as it it tasted... like artificial grape flavored candy, but not too sweet. I know that probably sounds weird, but that's the flavor that came to mind immediately. The Sal had a burst of bright, light acidy raspberry flavor, but no other berries there, moderately sweet. Both were tender, tender skin, very light crunch.
I thoroughly enjoyed both, but the Sal was better. The HdA tree was very small (I'll post a pic in Martin's thread), the Sal tree is significantly bigger.
Either way, it was nice to taste these two figs. The lighter, powdery skinned fig below with slightly open eye is the Hative D'Argentile, the darker red interior fig with closed eye is Sal EL/Gene. I could have left on one more day, but I wasn't risking the birds when I had only one fig per tree.
