Salce

Moderately sweet, slight seed crunch, no distinct flavors at first but a couple of minutes later noticed a slightly carmelized sugar aftertaste, may have picked a day early.  Nice fig, a keeper for me.  Also should note it is my slowest grower and doesn't need as much water as other figs.  Maybe a good fig for the SW based on water needs.

Steve, I have this one and it is very slow growing for me also.
No figs for me this year. Good job on yours.

Would you throw all others to the pigs?   :)

Maybe give my Hunt figs to the pigs, it was absolutely bland.  A pig probably would turn its nose up at it.  Strange though, now that it has gotten used to the SWC it has put on at least 20-25 figs.

I just got one sounds like I may have a while to get to taste it so thanks for sharing and the pictures.

goss

Thanks for showing this. "Salce" is dialect for "willow." This fig is found about fifteen miles south of a town in Italy called Castel di Sangro.

Nice fig, love the color.  If the Hunt needs a new home, let me know.

Steve, My Salce is growing decently. I hope to taste it this year.
Thanks for posting pics and giving a nice description.

Glad to hear it's a keeper.  I have one coming from a very kind forum member when the weather is a little cooler.  It looks delicious.  =)

Thanks for the pics and flavor description. This tree rooted good for me and has been a vigorous grower. Have left several fruit on a couple so I will hopefully get to taste this year.

Have Paradiso Nero Mario that will be ripe soon as well.

This is one I would like to try. Heard a lot of good thing about it.Thanks for the pics..

352.JPG 354.JPG  This fig is from the mother tree of all salce figs in USA Just picked it tonight. First one of the year, very sweet, caramel fruity flavor,to die for. And yes! i still would give all others to pigs if i had plenty of salce. I have been eating salce figs since june in my greenhouse, but the outside ones are just starting to ripen. I just got back from Italy ate a ton of figs and took a bunch of pictures. I have added a new rare fig to my collection and it is called zoccolante very rare,I will post pictures in another thread.

Mario,

Interesting that our flavor notes compare so well.  I had forgotten about your description when I tasted my fig.  It took me a few minutes to think about the flavor and identify it as carmelized sugar, it had me stumped for awhile.  I haven't tasted a lot of figs so far, but was surprised by this figs carmel taste.  I'm guessing carmel flavor in a fig is unusual.

Thank you for sharing this fig with us.

Steve if you wait for it to get real soft,  honey will start dripping  from the bottom of the fig. Then eat it.Then tell me if you would feed the rest of your figs to pigs.

Mario,

No, I'll never feed my Salce figs to the pigs, only my Hunt figs.
