Here is my little Sals Corleone.Click to enlarge.
Looks nice Martin,Don't worry I'm not enterested in it, I have my own.I had the ends snipped off the other day so I can get the fruit to ripen. Thanks to Vasile ( Herman2 ) for this trick.
Rafed i no longer worry about you as you have everything i have and much much and much more.Ever think about learning to fly a plane instead of driving truck ?Think of the places you could pick up some figs . lol
Martin,I have done many things in my life. But,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I fear heights. So flying is out of the question, Oh well.Maybe we can talk Cecil into flying.
Martin, I think in Rafed's condition this year, climbing a fence is out of the question. You can relax this summer.
Rafed..Not a chance in Hail for me to fly! Thanks Buddy
Maybe a dumb question here, but is Sal's the same as Sal's Corleone? I must say, I am having a time trying to keep up with all the variant names of the same variety of fig.
It does get confusing. Sal's Corleone is a different cultivar than Sal's El. And I do believe there is at least one more Sal's. It may be Sal's Gene or it may be something different, I also get confused. I think Sal is a common name in Italy. Both Sal's Corleone and Sal's El originated from Belleclaire nursery which is now out of business. Then in turn, Edible Landscaping obtained Sal's (not Corleone) from Beleclaire and was selling it as Sal's hence the El to designate it's new source. That should help explain at least part of the picture.
Thanks for the clarification. Procured some Sal's Corleone cuttings this spring from another forum member. Tried too different ways, chamber and water method. Chamber took right away, but I being too impatient transferred them to cups too soon, I think. Water method produced green sprouts, but no roots, so I recently removed sprouts, doused in NaHCl and put in shoe box. Hope springs eternal.
I believe I have read here that Sal's Corleone is the same as Sicilian Red.
Dale, That other member was me. I recall your forum name too. LOL Sal's Corleone is one that is frequently considered "tricky" to propagate. It's tricky for me too. Hope you get it to root. I'm not a chemist so please enlighten me what is NaHCl, is that bleach?
Gina, I think some also consider it the same as Aldo. Figs that come from the same town in their home land are usually very closely related, differing very minutely, same gene pool afterall. That may be the case here or indeed they may be identical, just named differently by differnt people distributing the same variety
