If leaves are yellowing and falling off, it could be too little water, too much shade, too much heat, maybe not enough fertilizer, or fertilized when dry. If they are looking more shriveled and grey, probably too  much water causing root issues, though at 30" it should be big enough to no be as susceptible and a newly rooted cutting would be.

Cecil, i know from your posts you been muclching double potting etc with Some plants.
Soil that stays moist and not dries out somewhat on young plant will make it wilt and the main trunk will get rather soft to the touch and then the main trunk will start bending over and could die.
The roots of young fig plant do not like moist soil for long periods.
Just a thought to consider.
But a stress plant as like yours is best kept out of hot sun in my opinon.

Martin,

I water the plants, then wait for at least an hour and then fertilize it, and it along with my other young plants are on our front porch, I really doubt they get over 3 hrs of morning sun, no evening sun, and I have been using Schultz Plus on the plants, this time when I watered it, I used M-G at 1/2 strength.

Am I on the right track, or am I confusing the plant with that watering habit?
Another member in a private email said I might have been confusing the plant with doing to many different things, I don't know where that came from?

Cecil,
i dont personally this these type of plants (figs) would get confused with watering habits, i just water mine when the containers feel light when i tip them, sometimes i scratch with my fingertips down 3 to five inches to actually get the feel of the soil. But watering habits i think they could care less about a schedule long as a person does not keep them thirsty or keeps them wet all the time.
I have experieced both conditions too dry soil and my plant leaves and stems holding them will droop downwards, also to much and they can do the same and if kept up the main trunk starts to bend also and gets real soft.
What i notice and maybe keep an eye on is your leaves are getting those brown spots, yes my larger plants get a few here and there not to much but my little ones such as your do not its almost as something shiny is reflecting on the leafs .
Cecil im just giving you my experience and in no way say do this or do that as im sure you know that. Personally i think yours will be ok in long run, remember you always can ask me to replace something if things go south.
These are our little ones and nothing wrong with worrying about them, hopefully when yours grow bigger the worrying subsides more and bring lots of fruit to enjoy in meantime we babysit them and worry. I look at my small guys everyday several times a day for the slightest thing that seems abnormal so far im lucky except one is doing something i never seen before.
But i tell you i never tied a bolt with string onto a leaf before like i did about a half an hour ago but well its a long story and off your subjectline. ; )

HAHA,

I value your advise Martin, always have.

Oh Cecil, i just saw the meter thing, ya making me strain me ole eyes!!!!
But thats a neat device, how far down do you stick it and im cuious do you get a more wet level reading further down than say right near the trunk several inches down. I ask because i would think upper part of soil would dry the fastest im not leading to anything im just cuious about the meter.
I keep going back to look at them leaves and looking at those brown spots what seems to be 1 on each leaf puzzels me ive never seen that pattern before at least on my plants. Whats your take on it any ideas?

Hi Martin,

The two probes on the moisture meter (one for moisture the other for PH) are 8" long, in the picture it is buried to the hilt 8"
and yes the farther down it goes the wetter the reading.
The only thing I can think of is what Tom said about water from the high wind and rain that laid my Guilbeau over on the leafs and the sun cooking the leafs,But all my plants got the rain, so why just one plant doing that? Thanks for chiming in Martin :)

Hi Tom,

No would be the answer to me fertilizing on every watering, I fertilize about every two weeks or so.
Now to the Miracle grow. I don't understand anyone saying not to fertilize potted figs, now that is a new one to me. Tom, I think what Mr.JM was talking about is in-ground figs!Martin uses M-G quite successfully along with a bunch of others growing figs.

And like I said to Martin, thanks for chiming in.

Cecil The more you fertilise the more acidic the potting soil gets,so I would spread about half an inch of Limestone powder in top of the soil,to neutralise the acidity.
I fertilised with 10 10 10 my Barnisotte wich had fig mosaic, and I was advice havy fertilisation, and at one point the tree starting to die,and died all the way,and when I smelled the potting soil it was smelling like ureea piss, and that is what killed it.
So Yes fertiliser are good, but too much,is very bad for potted figs.
Hope this will help
H2

Thanks Herman,

I have a big sack of ag lime like we use on our hay field, I guess that will work.

I will put that on all my potted plants!
Maybe, just maybe I can save it.With everyones help.

Herman,

I decided to go to the feed store

I bought a sack of dolomitic limestone and put the amount you suggested on all my plants.

Thanks, now we watch them fig plants.

Thanks Dan,

I do not use the 8-8-8 on any potted plants, only in-ground fig plants/trees

What I have been using lately for the small potted plants is Schultz Plus.

Hmmmmmm,

Some more useful information, I intend to put the dolomitic limestone to my in-ground fig trees next spring, I hope is gives the _)(*^&&()RKN the runnin off's........HEHE running off's is a country hick saying around here meaning diarrhea !

Again thanks Dan.

Well my Sal's EL is putting a new leaf on, it got down to two leafs,
those two are still there but look terrible.
