I don't have the teriible splitting problem with my SC. Mine will split somewhat if we get tons of rain, but I have others who are far worse. I haven't tried the Sal's Gene but the SC is sweet and rich, large, productive and totally hardy here in Philly. Mine is in ground and grows like a weed, I think it is a very good cultivar.
