Sal's, Sal

Aw Shucks; that was supposed to read SAL'S, SAL'S EL & CHICAGO HARDY
I've seen a discussion that reports that Sal's and Sal's Corleone  are the same fig. That information quoted this site as the basis for the claim.

I also recall discussions to the effect that Edible landscaping once sold a Sal's, and that later the operator there announced that Chicago Hardy and Sal's were the same fig.

Further, I seem to recall that the original Sal's EL, Gene's strain, is not the same as that later sold as Sal;s.

Now; what I would like to know is which Sal's is supposed to be the same as Sal's Corleone?

Oooh [E:you] good oold Sal [E: person], where are you?!

Ok, Guys;
The fellow who posted a link to this site as evidence that Sal's fig and Sal's Corleone had it wrong apparently.  I have the Sal's fig and Hardy Chicago, so I know they are not the same.  It was the claim that Sal's fig and Sal's Corleone were the same that threw me.

Hi Ox,
later this growing season i hope to post all three EL Sals, Hardy Chicago and Sals Corleone side by side and probably a few other pictures of them such as fruit .

Hello,

     Take a look at this link (I wrote the text based on some research that I did on the topic)  http://figs4fun.com/Info/Info_Sals.html     Also look at this link http://figs4fun.com/Info/Info_Hardy_Chicago.html   I wrote the section that is currently at the bottom of this link based on some research that I conducted on the topic.    I have not had the opportunity to personally compare Hardy Chicago, E.L. Sals (not to mention the other synonyms), and Sal's Corleone side by side, but based on the information provided by folks on the forums, these do appear to be different figs.    I hope this helps.  There are certainly some interesting stories behind these figs.

There are 3 (qualifying) Sal's Figs.
Sal must be a very common Italian name...

(a) Sal's (El/Gene) - The mostly distributed one; looks like an HC.
(b) Sal's (Corleone) - Belleclare #31; still rather rare.
(c) Sal's (other?) - Belleclare # 39; still very MUCH illusive.

(b) looks VERY different from (a). Herman, once posted an
eye-split pic of it somewhere an a FF.  His came from me.

(c) somewhat looks like (a); but I KNOW that it is different
(there is some dispute, of origin/which-came-first; (c) or (a)).
I got mine thru an accidental-mislabel fig form a member
and some further inquiring about its ID/source...
A characteristic feature is the SMALLER leaves. Two other
members may have it, but did not know it (I did alert them).
Will post a pic later...

EL = edible landscaping
gene = ?
belleclare #39 being elusive = no one knows where any are at this point?

Just looking for some clarification...

EL = Edible Landscaping

Gene = http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=4302507

I dunno about Belleclare figs, there are a lot, and Belleclare is closed, so ... gotta rely on the 'old timers' for that.

Gene on his eastcoastfigs site seems to be saying that his EL Sals and #39 are one and the same.  I do not doubt that Gorgi’s #39 is different, or looks and behaves differently.  There are many possible explanations, such as a bud sport, for example.
