San Pietro fig

I bought a San Pietro fig this year and have been waiting to taste this one. The tree had a few figs on it but with the frost coming I covered it with a frame made of 2x2's and used a tarp to protect it on the nights that it was to freeze. Well, it made it through and I got to try it's first fig. All I can say it was well worth the trouble. It was about the size of an egg. Very sweet flavor. It ranks second so far this year with Black Triana as No 1.

That one did not surprise me. Won't be a problem again.

Nice-looking fig, Tony. However, it looks more like a San Piero than a San Pietro.

Don't forget the San Pedro too.

I bought the tree from Joe Morle at figtrees.net as "San Pietro". To tell you the truth I don't know anything about a San Piero or San Pedro fig. Either way it was a very good fig, can't wait til next year to get more. I'm thinking of making a temporary greenhouse over it to try to ripen the rest of the figs on it.
