San Pietro JM -- Excellent in the rain!!

Hey guys, over the past 2 weeks, to say it has been raining would be an under statement! I have several trees with figs trying to ripen but the rain and down pours have made it virtually impossible for that to happen. Last week on a dry day, I moved my San Pietro JM under my covered deck. I bagged this fig and let it watched it for 2 weeks. Today and the rest of this week, we are suppose to be in the low 80s cloudy, and rain coming again on Wednesday. So, this fig got soft so I decided to pick it. It was a great choice. This fig was excellent! Just like Joe describes it....very juicy and very sweet! In a lot of rain, this fig is great....in no rain and a lot of heat and sun it would be an 11 on a scale 1 to 10. Today, it's a 9.

Very nice, I'd imagine most of the white around the skin would fade if we had gotten some more sun & heat.

Sounds like a winner, especially for your growing conditions.

Nice photo spread Dennis- I can tell you really liked this fig. You are probably the only other source of San Pietro (JM) pictures outside of his website so it is important for us to learn more about this fig.
I only have JM's White Triana. This year, that fig blew me away! First it was huge, meaty, and very flavorful and sweet for a white fig.
Do you by chance grow his Votata fig?
Thank you, Leon

Leon, Yes! White Triana is the sweetest fig I've ever tasted and I've tasted a lot of figs! Votata? Yes....I have that one too. It is also a super sweet fig. I mightt drive up and visit Joe in the Spring and one of his largest White Triana, Votata and San Peitro.

Fig looks fantastic, Dennis!

I really love this fig.

Great looking fig for sure....

Fig porn....

Cheers,
T

VS commented in another post how this fig was different to the UCD strain.  The UCD strain is a green fig and beet red inside.  However, this one is one of my favorites.  I'm going back to Ocracoke in October and planning on taking a few friends some fig trees.  This might be one of them.  I want to compare it to their Pound fig.

What's the flavor like?
