Was Stella late to bear for you? it looks like a really attractive fig.

Do not know First year to fruit.

Herman - was it a breba or main crop. My stella crop was affected by the sudden cold in May & lost all breba fruits that were close to ripening. I should not have woken iit up so early & should have winterise it in  the garage instead of the house but now it has recovered with lots of main crop & good branching, alittle too late.  The sudden cold took a heavy toll on the tree, lost all its leaves & killed all new growth. However in 2007, it fruited & look exactly the same. Also, Adraino's Slocan Italiano looks like Stella. I would  more know  next year.

This is main crop:I was intentionally braking down breba figs as soon as they appeared. The main crop appear earlier this way and have time to get ripe. That is the way to go.
My tree was outside in a Fig cellar I have, and use it especially for my subtropical plants.
They wake up when they want to usually in May.
Hope this will help

Herman,

Being in NJ also, I would be interested if you tell us about your fig cellar.

Regards,
Steve

It is a basic shelter ,dug out in soil on the end of my property, making sure I avoid electrical ground lines.
It is 4 foot wide by 5 foot long by 5 foot deep.
Plenty of space for bare rooted figs and small potted plants.
