Santa's List

LOL you mean all 4 grafted to 1

I'd have to pick the Nero 600m,
nice looking dark fig, Herman says it's hardy and can handle NJ rain.

I dont think i would want a grafted fig. if the graft dies back what are you left with. a brown turkey rootstock.

Dave, I have grafted figs and they don't die back here.  6b must be terrible! ;)

Tony, in retail nurseries they call it "4 on 1" and I just work from the ground up and call it 1 grafted to 4.  I have some trees of other species with 8 varieties on them and Jon and I have a mutual friend with a citrus tree with over 100 varieties on it.  But that's only enough to get a small taste of each one and would be a big tease, I think.

it gets cold here, somtimes down below zero for a few days. past 2 years though its been crazy like 70 on new years that 50 degrees higher than the norm. this year has been crazy too. a few cold days then up to the 70s again then back down to 25 then bam back up. if you dont like the midwest weather just wait, it will change.

I'm going to bend the rules a little here. I already have it, but want it 5 years older than it already is and producing a bountiful harvest, a Smith.

I'd have to say that top on my list is Negretta. Beautiful dark fig with some small speckles. Looks yummy!

Santa's coming,Little John!!

I hope everyone gets what they wanted on their fig XMAS list.  You know Santa checks his list twice, especially naughty or nice.

Well Steve juuust in case Santa misses it the first time...the one on my list is Maltese Falcon

Don't think i can get the one i want. My great grandfather had a fig tree in ground in Norwich, NY, which he would bury every winter. He was from Sicily so I assume the fig to be Sicilian origin. I asked around and found out one of his sons took a cutting, had a tree in a wine barrel that would go in for the winter. He passed on 20 or so years ago, so did the fig. Never met my great grandfather, would have been very cool to have a piece of his tree...

GL to everyone else. May you wish come true!

Hey ohjustaguy is the original tree in Norwich NY still there that you know of or can you some how find out if it is it shows that its 4 hrs roughly away from me my friend has a house at wolf lake off of rt 17 and thats how to get to Norwich if you can find out if its still available I will try and make a weekend trip to friends house and try and get you your great grandfathers tree just let me know what you think I dont know if it would be before XMAS I doubt it but I would love to make that wish come true if I could.

A member told me to add Bourjosotte Gris to my list - so i did!

Dear Santa ,
Iv'e been a good boy this year. for Christmas I'd like a new Bicycle ,a Red Rider BB gun and a Marseilles VS Black.
I promise to do my chores, brush my teeth and leave a few Desert King cutting for you in return.

Thanx Santa.

The answers so far have been great.  I am also happy to see that at least a couple of people are going to get their wish.

Ohjustaguy,
I really feel for you and hope that somehow you might locate an ancestor of the family tree to get some cuttings from.

I have heard of the Red Lebonese, but haven't read much about it.  It looks like I need to research this variety a little.

dear santa,

i don't want much. i just want 3 acre for planting fig orchard. let me know.. lol

I'm with you, Pete!  My 1/2 acre isn't enough for what I want eventually.

Either of the Maltese varieties would be fantastic Santa!!!! Black Mediera, Black Bethlehem, or Col De Dame would be nice too ;)

Tyler

My wish would be to have one or more of my fig trees to fruit next year so that i can have the un ashamed pleasure of tasting my very first home grown fig i don't mind which Variety  Am being greedy with my wish or just being optimistic as i have more than one tree maybe if i ask Santa nicely he might grant my wish i hope so

Bullet,
I hope you find a way to acquire some land to plant an orchard on...........Just keep in mind that it is very probably that if you get three acres once it is planted you will want five more.  Kind of like starting out thinking you only need 3-4 fig varieties.LOL

Lampa Preta.
I read it is a great breba producer.

Pete, I'll send you three acres in the mail, but only if you have a place to put it!

I've been blessed with the generosity of members here this fall . I am so very grateful and have so many cuttings to root and nurture.
My wish is for all those who have a special want in cuttings to be blessed with them this Christmas season!

sam,

you being up in canada and all.. i don't think mounties will allow that to cross the border. what with soil and all.. :)
