Satelitehead (Jason)

Hi Jason i saw you mention in another post you like the dark types and saw your list of them.
I did not want to pose the question there to step on Paully's dime which i sometime do.
Im curious which ones have you tasted out of your dark fig collection and so far do you favor to date one particular fig over the rest.
It seems we may have similar likes in the taste department.
I seek no more fig plants unless someone has one that grows money inside the fig. : )

I am sad to report I have not yet had a full season with any of them (only Brown Turkey and Celeste), and therefore can't compare.  Of the list, I'm sure you noticed that none of them are in larger than 2gal pots.  The only 2nd year fig I have is Hollier, and it had serious dieback, losing everything from 6" from the base of the main trunk.  This was a purchase from James Robin - it was a great score for the price.

Our local farmer's market has a great variety of figs from everywhere, and this is the only way I know what flavors I like.  I don't know many of the figs I have tried by name - it seems many are middle eastern figs, and not many have names that I see in the varieties page.  They are very seasonal for fresh figs, too, so right now I only get dry ones.

I look forward to the coming season and hope that things go well with pot culture so I may reap the rewards of successful rooting and some of the year-end acquisitions.  I also look forward to sharing some of the cuttings with the folks that have helped me out with acquiring varieties suited to my interest.

Jason,
Where do you buy good dry figs? The ones in my local farmers markets look like rocks and taste like sand.

I guess we just have better farmers markets here ;)
