Save A Tree

We finally sold our house in Lake Havasu. Escrow should close in a week. To add insult to injury (we lost a bundle on the sale), the new owner dropped by yesterday to admire his new house and mention that he would be removing my fig trees. He has no use for them.

So....if anyone would like a free healthy tree(s), shoot me an email or a pm. I know it's a lousy time to transplant anything in our summer heat, but I didn't get to choose the timing.

I have two real healthy in ground Violette du Beaurdeaux trees and several unknowns that are most probably black mission trees. Height varies from two feet tall to over six feet. Most are real bushy and have lots of fruit on them.

I hate to see them go, but better to someone that would care for them.....

Hi, Dave!
Why you don't want take them with you???
You can keep them in pots...

I never really considered it.  Most of these are big trees.   I would have to cut them way back.  And our temps are in the 100's here now.  We are going to be renting through the summer months and they would have to remain in pots through the summer.

Do you think they would survive?   Are they tough enough to dig up and move during the growing season in these temps?

I move two Celecte two years from now from my girlfriend yard..She just don't want them..They was 10 feet tall..
And we cut roots pretty bad, because she was in such hurry..I trasport them to my property and plant them..They both survive.. This was a middle of a summer here in Florida..
I think you need to try it..
Figs doing good in pots too..I have many of them in pots, even 6 feet tall...
Just get big pots for big figs..
Check out local nursery for big pots..
I all the time getting even 25 gallon free..

Thanks Olga.

Can't hurt to try I guess.   I've been babying these guys along for two years now.    They would be in pots for three months at least....in our hot desert summer.  Not sure they'll make it.   Beats leavin them to die though.

I have fifteen trees in the ground and can't possibly take them all.   So if anyone local to Lake Havasu here in the South West wants one or two...or three...get in touch.

if you dig them up and pot them keep them in the shade all summer.  I would remove alot of leaves and fruit If it was me. I would prune them in half keeping the sticks for rooting and trying to reduce the impact on the root system to sustain the top growth. They will look bad for this year but will come back next...

If no takers here try Freecycle.com or craigslist for your area. But I agree with trying to pot them and keep at least one of each variety if you can.
