Eli, thanks for sharing... This is one of the top figs of israel

Look very nice.  Thank you for sharing

Beautiful fig Eli , thanks for sharing.

Looks great!

Eli,

Thanks for the information. Nice getting reviews of foreign figs.

Bass after a day i tasted a hurtmani fig (brunswick ) and the taste is amazing too..
also tasted some Hmadi and i got a wound in my mouth from the acidity-should be good with some taquila maybe instead of lime :)

i dont know guys but Brown Turkey figs are not my kind of figs these days.

thanks for the pic eli

With figs like that, I don't know how you take the time to photograph. The shutter speed would not be fast enough to catch it from tree to mouth.

Looks great .
Are you familiar with a fig called Fayumi from Egypt ?

John

If it is possible to post pics would be good.
i also know of KOP FIOMI from niamey niger but dont know if its the same?

eli - the fayumi came from the fellow we had spoken about before....
if you meet with him soon, we would love to see a picture of the fruit if he has any

@elin

I was in Israel during the middle of January. What a great place you live in.. I cannot wait to go back. My question: Is Sbayi the fig that was sold in most markets? I was at Machane Yehuda & the market in Tel Aviv (the name is escaping me), but the same fig was being sold at both places by vendors.

Hi Ross, love your yt channel. Id love to guide you to some fig places next time your here.

The markets mahane yehuda in jerusalem and hacarmel in tel aviv have mostly two vars:
The brazilian black/roxo de valinhos( california bt??)- elongated black- brown fig.
Sbayi- as in pictures you see here-pink-black with short profile with some cracking.

I believe that in january you were sold the Brazilian 2nd/3rd crop since the sbayi finishes ripening around november. I bet it tasted a bit bland but still nice.

The sbayi is for sure in the Usa and you should be able to get cuttings.. Danny yakir the late israeli collector that had 250 varieties says in his book that if one has space for only one fig in his garden then the Sbayi should be top choice..

Eli, great looking fig. Thanks for the information a fig on the wish list
