Schar Not

  • jtp

Well, I have an alleged Schar Italian that I got from a friend. All was going well; lots of growth, and loaded with nice little figs, even though it is still just a small tree.

I keep thinking, "OK, darken up. ... You are almost ready to ripen. ... Man, is this thing ever going to get purple?"

Today, after all of our recent rain, I see a fig starting to break open. Sure enough, it was ripe and GREEN. It was pink inside and about the size of a walnut. Taste was lightly sweet with a hint of berry. No crunch. It was a good fig, just not what I was expecting.

As it stands, it is a newly unknown keeper. And if anyone asks if it is Italian, I'll have to say, "Schar Not."

lol... come to the dark side.

Hey jp here in israel there is a variety called shaor italian- .
