schultz rooting hormone powder

Anyone have any luck with this using it?  I found it at HD and wondered if anyone has had success with it

Pete

I have used both stim root & Schultz I dont recommond either one for figs. They do work well with other types of plants but not figs. Liquid rooting hormone works allot better than powder and causes less rot. You can always make your own rooting hormone by making a tea with chopped weeping willow leaves & Water.

Thanks Nelson.  What liquid one do you recommend?  I know Martin uses a gel i think.

Every testimony I have heard, including from USDA/UC Davis says that powdered hormone promotes rotting of the cuttings.

Jon I agree the 4 cuttings I tried using a powder Hormone both rotted exactly where the powder was and wont be using that ever again on figs.

Pete there are two types of rooting hormones indole butyric acid (IBA) or naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) I believe for figs IBA is better but it comes in different concentrations Im not sure wich concentration works best for figs. Personally I would say dont bother with rooting hormone the best part about figs is that they are relatively easy to root without any hormones added wich is why we enjoy rooting them even more.

Thanks for your help.

Petea,
the powder stuff as members say is not worth the trouble i tried it years ago and it did not work.

I have used clonex red gel and it does work sometimes faster and sometimes not faster for me . What i did with the gel was pour it in a shot glass just enought to dip the scion in, coat it and stick scion in premade hole in a pre-wet perlite soil mix and it works.

Also last season i did the exact same with other scion but did not use the gel and they rooted as well BUT like i mention sometimes the gel roots faster sometimes not.

There are several different types of Clonex gel i used the Clonex red as its made for hardwood cutting . It has a high amount of Indole Butyric Acid 8g/L  which promotes rooting. Also most plants have that within them which i found interesting.

I would say unless your out to have fun and just want to experiment per say go ahead and try the gel but otherwise i would just root em the way most folks do.

Best Health

Thanks Martin.  Snow gone yet?

No its still around but melting fast.
I got a great observation today seeing the snow as i noticed my gas filter which looks like a minature coffee can was leaking at a good rate  (rusted ) this morning and drove car 3 miles to the repair shop and walked home. Total cost was 45.00 which i thought was very fair.
I was wondering why the car was taking a longer time to crank over the last few days.
Lady called me back 1 and 1/2 hours later and said car was ready, i politely told her my wife comes home about 3:30 and i will come get it then.

Ive never had anything done at a mechanic and it cost only 45 bucks.  Your lucky.  Our snow is almost gone here as well.  I cant wait for spring
