Scion order

I placed a request for dormant/Fall cuttings to the USDA collection in Winters. I have heard that they are pretty good at responding to requests but after several weeks I have heard nothing. I have a FedEx account and I requested notification when they received my order. Should I worry? If they do not accept an order will they let me know or will I have to wait to find out?

I would re-send the original request, personally.  At the top of the message, I would prefix with, "I submitted this order originally on XX/XX/XXXX but I have not heard a confirmation it was received.  I am re-submitting in case the email was lost in transit."

But that's just me.

same thing happened to me. i'm going to try once again when the school is back in session.. around sept/oct.

if no reply by then, i'm cancelling my orders.

I would also resend as Jason suggested...I placed my order and received prompt confirmation.  But, I imagine it also has to do with the volume of orders received, etc.   Mary Parker was the secretary who processed my order and actually the first submission the form would not open for her, so we figured out a resolution and my order was received.

Sara,

Thanks for the contact info. I sent email to OrdersNCGR.davis@ars.usda.gov and received confirmation right away.

I think I have been using wrong email.

Pete

If you are sending directly to Bernie Prins, I do not recommend this.  Use the OrdersNCGR address.  The UCD website and order form show different addresses depending on where you look.

I sent my email to Bernie Prins. I will certainly resend it. Thanks to everyone who responded.

please explain what your talking about, thanks Luke

They are talking about placing an order with UC Davis.

Here is the information page and towards the bottom of the page is the order form.  You'll need to open the order form, complete all the black spots and then save the completed order form to your computer.  Then open an email the person a few post before this one and attach your completed order form.

Thanks Cathy for doing the research and providing the links.  It will give me a little incentive to order.

thanks Cathy, wondering if i can get more info. i went to the site and looked at alot, but could not find who is eligible and how much or how many different types you can order. i'm sure it's there some where but i can't find it. very confusing to me. i still have to do home work as to which plants are cold hardy for the northeast. as always thank you and good health. Luke

thanks Jason, this looks like it should do the trick. i'll do my homework and try to place an order. i'm sure i'll still have questions.

I should have read this thread before sending my order yesterday.  I resent it to the orders address instead of Bernard.Prins.  Thanks for pointing that out.

I ordered:

Violette de Bordeaux
Capri A
Early Violet
Ischia Blk
Panachee
Pistiliere
Golden Celeste
Monstrueuse

Monstrueuse is described as:
Pale yellow-green fig with strawberry interior. Very sweet, juicy, intense fig flavor. Crunchy seeds. Medium-open eye. Pebbly rough leaves. Medium-to-large tree, does well near the coast.

Capri A has no description available,  has anyone tried growing any of the Capri fig varieties?

Thanks all.

Monstreuse grows and fruits well but does have a bad splitting habit if it rains at my place.
good taste though

Thank you, Jim.

I had an impossible time trying to root Monstrueuse this year - I got cuttings from UCD, but they were in poor shape.  Not sure what was up - old tree, cuttings sat out too long, or I just suck at rooting ;).

@Luke, ask away if you have any questions.  That's what we're here for.  UCD is a great source for good cuttings.

again thanks jason and all,  please bare with me as i'm a little slow plus thick headed which makes everything double hard for me. then theres being fairly new to computers, not knowing how to work with the computer is another learning process going on at the same time.  everyone here seems to be very nice and willing to teach others. the pics help a lot with understanding things. as always good health to all.  luke

Not sure what I am doing wrong.

On Aug 22, I set up an acct with one of the autorized shippers, then I sent in my cuttings request to Bernie Prins' email address [subject: PLANT MATERIAL REQUEST FORM], and waited a week for a response. I also checked the shipping account to see if I had gotten some type of message [didn't]

Yesterday, Aug 30, I sent a follow up to the OrdersNCGR.davis email address, saying that I hadn't gotten a response and just wanted to be sure it had been received

I still haven't heard from either.  I did request quite a few cuttings but I said "I am not sure what quantity to request, so anything from the listing would be great"

I believe 15 is the limit; not sure why you've not gotten a response. Did you provide a FedEx acct number? Maybe you should try giving them a call.

Give it a few weeks. I could say more, but leave it at this: they are quite understaffed, so some things take time. And many of the personnel have travel requirements for seminars, etc, so that limits instant processing and response, often.

If you don't hear after a several weeks, then check in with them.

I sent an order to them on 8/21 and have not heard back from them.  I'm not concerned about it, and I'll wait weeks before I contact them again.
