much less than spring rooting. 36-5. out of 5 that didn't make it, 4 were all same variety that didn't even get out of the baggie. all molded and rotted before making it to the cup. one made great progress until it has grown too tall and i left it outside of the humidity bin. it was doing great then suddenly, it started to dry up then started to rot. success rate this winter will be rather low. but i'm hoping most will survive. lost one variety completely.

Sorry for your loss Pete, but you aren't alone.  This has happened to me on 3 varieties.  Mostly in summer when they sit in the heat of the mailman's truck all day (we are last on the list for delivery), but once this winter.  I can't imagine why they arrived slimy, but they did, so I'll get that variety elsewhere.  I have replaced the other two I lost, and this most recent was not a rare variety, so should be pretty easy!

I hope what you lost wasn't rare.  My ratio is 72-3.

No fun, even if you only lose one!

That's a good point. Who knows how conditions during transport affect the ability of cuttings to root.

They might use up all their energy trying to survive in transit, and then have no energy left to push roots.  I've had several like that this year already.  And I have one particular variety(won't say which) that come on real strong at first(roots, leaves, etc.)and then for some unknown reason they loose all their leaves and the branches shrivel up and then it eventually dies out.  Maybe 20% of this varietry make it for me, and the rest die.  Go figure!

Oh Nooooooooooo!!  I am so sorry for your loss:(

Vince, you just deflated my balloon!   I hope I don't have that happen..

JoAnn...the variety I'm talking about in not any of the ones you mentioned that you are working with. I don't really know what the problem is.  It gets the same TLC as all the others.  If anything, it may be the fact that it only gets a few small hours of morning sunlight, and maybe it's just not enough. All the others are doing fine though.

Human error: - (3) **GM#201- rooted, **GM#179-rooted, **GM#5-rooted BUT I "drowned" them with love. They meant a lot, I hovered too much so they are ALL dead. Never doing that again (12/5)
