Searching for Figs on eBay

If you do an eBay search for "fig tree" you will come up with 1829 search results. Far too many than are relevant to this forum. I have trimmed this down significantly. Give this search a try.

Fig tree -bonsai, -seed, -seeds, -moda, -quilt, -quilts, -fulmar, -persimmon, -bottle, -Lego, -oil, -fiddle, -fiddleleaf, -photo, -wide, -wood, -somerset, -quilting, -Christmas, -butterflies, -pattern -under, -Disney, -paper, -postcard, -wax, -painted, -faux, -barren, -pocket, -blossoms, -book, -lighted, -game, -Xmas, -Blake, -Ireland, -vintage, -patterns, -tea, -steel, -partylite, -Sydney, -weeping, -blossom, -cluster, -memoirs, -topiary, -pillar, -fabric, -gifts, -quilts, -plum, -cotton, -candle, -summer, -print, -soap, -restaurant, -Alii, -murder, -budding, -co., -candles, -Mormon, -zhuoliu, -nightingale, -shaker, -bottles, -magazine, -banyan, -conn, -bible, -duff, -generation, -life, -Buddha, -justaf, -elephant, -nativity, -menen, -series, -lesson, -come, -John, -mice, -Neil, -bodhi, -art, -nearly, -violence, -perfume, -folio, -Edison, -Kay, -handbook, -Nepal, -pages, -wow!, -curtain, -Dora, -CD, -DVD, -cover, -silk, -salt, -Santa, -willow, -Sri -hair, -picture, -church, -parrot, -resin, -flowers, -fontanini, -cake, -Jesus, -parable, -glover, -decorative, -Peru, -vhs, -mirabelle, -engraving, -plaid, -bell, -Nassau, -edition, -behold, -scented, -camping, -moreton, -newton, -iwgac, -11

This gets you down to 275 actual fig plant or cuttings results. From there you can also filter out varieties you already have or don't care about.

Happy Hunting!

Why not just search fig with couple clicks browse to the category of Flowers, Trees & Plants under Yard and Gardening. I know maybe someone listed in different category but I bet it gets most.

I just tried that and found 570 results. You can copy and paste my search words and save yourself a little time. More than that you can save the search terms in your computer's "notes" section and continually add to that list as you want. I added "Celeste", "mission", etc. because I already have those. My personal list after those additional varieties is under 100 results I have to scroll through. What I really want to see are only the varieties I don't have.

Great suggestions! I also would select "North America" to avoid getting results from Turkey etc.

Trees cost more and have a lot higher shipping so I just look for "cuttings figs" and filter for US only That gives 279 results right now (it will be less than 50, other times of year). I have "time:newly listed" bookmarked, to see if anything has just come on that I need to follow. Then I go to "time: ending soonest" to see if there's a smoking deal to bid on right away. That gives me a fast and nasty way to keep up with ebay, I'll usually check it right after I check email.

Ever since I was burned by a probable fig cutting scammer on eBay, I have a list of "Members You Follow" of sellers on eBay I trust to have what they say they have.
I see all the selections each seller has to offer and do searches here and Gardenweb to find out more about the cultivars. The "Varieties" section of the board here is great for seeing what the figs look like, but often doesn't say anything about how they taste, grow or compare them to other figs.
If there is still time, I'll do a search for "figs cuttings" or "figs rooted cuttings" and filter US only. I always check the seller with the Figs4Fun scammer list here.  Once bitten, twice shy....

I just tried your string Harvey, but it got zero results.  Doesn't matter to me cuz not looking for cuttings, but are you sure you copied it right?

See?  This is how much of an idiot I am.  I pasted the thing in ebay search field.  Rolling eyes.  It does work if you click on it.

My bad.

Suzi

I've always just used 'fig tree cuttings'. Right now that gives me 345

I also like to buy established trees. It's more difficult to weed out.

I used Harvey C's link and then sorted by "near me."  People within 25 miles of me are selling cuttings on Ebay.  I got to Harvey's group.  Don't remember how many miles he is from here..... 4-600 miles I think, but he is offering a lot of cuttings.  The "near me" sort eliminates all the non USA sellers.

Suzi

Just searched for "fig tree cuttings" w/ USA Only and got 241 results.

Suzi, maybe it's because it's a saved search for me and is specific to my account, not sure.  Maybe this will work for others:

Even if I'm not in a buying mood I like looking just to see what people are offering and what people are interested in.

Same here. I haven't purchased a cutting of any sort for a long time, and I've never sold any. But I like looking. Sometimes I wonder who these crazy people are who pay such high prices for cuttings. It's fascinating. :)

In Ebay search bar, type Fig Cuttings, then sort by newest listed, check daily.  Takes a couple minutes.

If you want trees, type fig tree, same.

Doing it that way, how many hits do you get? If you copy and paste my list into the search bar, how many hits do you get? I add a few more words to my personal list and when I copy and paste it in, I'm down to 100 or so hits looking at both trees and cuttings.

Those numbers are very interesting.  I remember years ago, when I first started collecting (depending on the season) the number of total hits would be 80-120.  Now they can be up over 500. It goes to show how popular figs are becoming.

Edit: My search has always been "fig tree in garden and yard..."

Works great!  Thanks Aaron.

I do not type anything. I have a shortcut set up on my desktop that with one click I get - (figs, US only, newly listed) then if I want ending soonest, then with one click I am there. I have a shortcut for newly listed because I have previously looked at all the old stuff. Anyways, just one click, no typing and I am there.

Ok, I see what your saying now.  You don't want to look through varieties you already have, your not trying to see as many as possible, your trying to ONLY see those you want.  Gotcha.  I copied first post into ebay's search and got 659...I must be doing something wrong.

I like waynea's suggestion for myself, thanks for suggesting a shortcut.

You are welcome Don, I always like to make things quick and easy. If anyone is having a problem creating a shortcut on your desktop then let me know and I will post a step by step.

Actually, I don't like to get cuttings from Ebay unless they are "Buy it Now!"  One price, no bidding wars!  I love trading cuttings with members here or paying for them here or on other fig forums.  I use Ebay a lot to buy stuff like tupperware that has died... LOL!  True though.  I get seeds from Ebay sellers as long as shipping is free and it's "Buy it now."

If you are nice and you make good friends on forums, you can get some really good cuttings for the cost of postage or for a favor that they may call in at any time.........

I'm with Gina.  Amazes me the prices people pay for cuttings.  Are they all members here?  I hope not.  Members here should know better.

Suzi

Most arw not members here and for many different reasons. One being all the BS that goes on in this particular group. Another reason is facebook, they have there own clubs and groups. This is a booming hobby right now. Its all around the world and for many, paying 100$ for a pair of cuttings is nothing. Its only gonna get crazier as the other countries get fig fever. There are so many varieties of figs that it becomes an obsession to collect until your backyard is stuffed. Lol this is my situation currently..

I am going to take your advice Suzi, I was high bidder on seven auctions by sellers/members from California, but you talked me into getting them from friends, thanks for the advice, I have stopped bidding on all seven auctions.
