Secret to ripening late figs in CO

Don't do this!

The snow was not supposed come until tonight, so much for the forecast.  These VdB had just started swelling. I'm hoping I got them in before any damage occurred. Temps just flirted with 32f for an hour or so. Back in the 70s by Monday, we will see if there any more to eat...

It happened to my plants last year unforecast snoe on October 11 but I was not expecting any ripening. However the leaves were refusing to drop specially the one or two years old. Comes with the territory literally.

Wow snow already.  I can't believe that since its over 90 degree's outside today.  And humidity through the roof!

I love the pot you have!  I just picked up two of these at Home depot yesterday.  Paid $18 ea for them.

Yep, such is life along the rockies. We probably still have a month of warm weather, just have to be on top of the shuffle.

Meghan, $18? I'm heading to HD on the way home!

I look for ones that have a ding or a little damage (I can either fix them or not worry about it since they are for figs in the back yard) and then go ask for a discount.  I think they are on clearance now for $41 and my Home Depot did over 50% off since they both had a piece broken right on the edge.  Nothing was missing, I just came home and got out the construction adhesive and they are rock solid now!

What are they, 30" pots?

These are the ones I was fixing up today.  Tomorrow I'll fill them up!  These are the same ones that you have, right?

Yep, I have two of those ones with the attached drip tray. They have been great for the last two years.

Checking the figs this evening, it doesn't look like there is any freeze damage. Maybe I will get to eat the last 10 figs.

Yea!  It would have been horrible to see damage like that this early in the year.  Hopefully you have enough sunny days in the near future to ripen the rest up.

The others in those pictures are really a good deal.  If you can find them they are down to $18 regular price.  Pick out one that is a little chipped and you could get it for $9

Well Ok, the VdB did finally ripen last week, but not until the tree had dropped 80% of its leaves.

Unfortunately, they had almost no sweetness. However, they made a great half pint of jam.

Do the fig shuffle in spring as early and as weather dictates and thus gain a few weeks in doing so fig embryo's appear tad earlier than if not doing the shuffle
This make a difference at end of season when ripening figs in our colder zones.

Young plants it does not matter though as their still adjusting there timeing but the elders its different.
