I received some seedlings from Greenfin a couple years ago. Here are a couple of the trees now. The first photo is baby of VDB. The second photo is baby of Panache. The fingers on the panache baby are quite long. Also it's the only tree of the many trees I have that have aphids. No figs yet on both fig trees.

Hi FigFinatic, How many seedlings did you start ? How old are those ? How tall are they ? I started some, 2 years ago and last year. Not figlets for now ... I spotted a seedling that looks like 5 years old (in a wall in Zone7, who would think of it !), and no figlets for now too. The leaf of the Panache seedling looks nothing like Panache.

I didn't start the seeds. Greenfin started them. He had a bunch of seeds as he has the fig wasp. He sent me a few seedlings. I think I got them about 2 maybe 3 years ago. They do look nothing like the parent. The panache baby has pinkish stems. I need to repot them because they are huge for the pot. Hope to get one fig out of each to see if they're edible.

Do you mean Greenfig? I think Greenfin is in Kansas and thus I doubt has the wasp.

Are the stems of the "Panache" striped?

No the panache baby stems are not striped. I'll need to look up who I really got the seedling from. It was a member from San Diego. Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly. Will get back to you on that.

Lol, lots of greens here.
You got the seedlings from me. I rooted them in large quantities at that time , thought that would be growing slowly like the cuttings but those little guys were the beasts.
I kept the names of the parents. I am pretty sure I had not mixed them up.
The first seedling that fruited did that later in the season , after that it kept track of the seasons nicely. Give it as much sun as you can and they should produce sooner.
In general, it might be really difficult to get a seedling that looks like a Panachee. It doesn't meant it is going to be worse, it just the stripes are not a dominant feature I believe .

Yes, it was greenfig. Those seedlings are vigorous. I should put them in stronger sunlight and see how they do. So when your seedlings fruited, did you get an edible figs? Both the figs don't look anything like the parents. This is sort of the fun of trying this. Hope to get some edible ones.
