Seller on E~BAY ?

Hi all,

I am wanting to buy a few Celeste cuttings.  I find this guy's listing on E~Bay. Seller ID: cco9  He lists some Fig varieties that I have never heard of,  and can find zero info on . Mostly the Russian Brown and La Banon figs . I know there is a White Russian and there are  Lebanese figs .  Does anyone here grow or heard of these 2 types of figs?    And has anybody dealt with this seller on E~Bay?  Below is a list of figs from this seller.

thanx.

This listing for  One cutting CHOOSE from
Celeste
Brown Turkey
Russian brown
Golden Celeste
Le Banon Fig
white Genovia
Italian Brown x
Santa Cruz
Trojan
Ischia
Italian figs  - 5 varieties
Brown Turkey Russia
Portuguese varieties -4 varieties

I like how it is listed "Almost all cuttings are from the most recent season's growth, but in a very few cases may have been taken from a prior season's growth".

No dealings with that individual...cco9
But it says to email questions to the grower: EVLADi7654 at AOL.COM
So is this individual selling cuttings for someone?

i emailed that person a few weeks ago requesting detail informatioin on those figs. i never got a reply back. It's probably Ty Ty trying to get rid of some brown turkey fig cuttings. I won't deal with these guys. Buyer beware. Stick with members of this forum or other known sellers.

Smart move asking Cody. I should have done the same thing a few months ago and posted as you have but honestly I didn't put the effort into it and leaped before I looked. Here is my experience and where I am now.

I had purchased 2 white genoa and 2 golden celeste cuttings from this seller at the end of December 2011. They were decent size and rooted up just fine using the new bag method. I can't say what they'll produce as there were no pictures and limited information but I will post back what grows in the future.

I mentioned to cco9 I am in the same town and could pick them up and the seller readily shared contact and address information so in my book that's a really big plus as far as the trust issue goes. I have $10 into it so no big deal.

A few months later I have changed my tune and I also side with Dennis' reccomendation. Buying any products from 06picl, hermansur, kk, mnedelcu, pitangadiego, dieseler6z92, fatnsassytexan is the wisest choice because now I want to see with my own eyes the cuttings, trees these come from, the resulting fruit, its history and origin. I've bought 75+ cuttings from them and have a substabtial investment in figs now but I wanted the verifiable quality that only research and some cash can obtaibn. They are all top notch folks so you should just buy from them from the start.

Also check out Jon's Figs 4 Fun cuttings to and see if you can get some cuttings there as he's awesome.

Just my two cents...

To Dawgdrvr: I can send send you some celeste cuttings for free, just email me.Best regards,Marius.

I went for it. For $2 I figured why not about 6 weeks ago. They sell potted trees as well out of CT. They were packaged and labeled well from what I remember. I ended up getting 18 varieties.

They were also listed on Craigslist.

I cut 80% of them in half to get a 2 for 1.

They are growing well in my bins and seem to be different. But hey who knows. Leaves look different in the immature phase anyway.

Just to share....
I bought some cuttings from him 3 months ago. since He's only one seller who could deliver figs cuttings to my country on the E-bay.
He is a nice guy  and we ever talked with long distance call over the phone.
Unfortunately , the seller could not  inform me the common varieties name instead of gave figs name with on tag as : Italian 1, Italian 2 , Italian 3  and Portugal 1 , Portugal 2  and Portugal 3.

I asked him through an Email  , and got his replied below.
Some cuttings  now are growth  up , It would be hard for me to find out  what varieties the figs  are.

Best regards

Subject: Re: Fig common names varieties. on your cutting package,

Hi ! They all are Brown, and Light Brown varietiies. The fruit is different in size. I have 2 trees (the same variety ) but growing in different parts of my garden and they have some differences in taste  and even shade of color. Regarding the taste ,as you may be know, taste differ!!, but I will tell you, I liked them all !. With the Figs ,you must wait 100% to wait until the fruit is ripe. It comes with the experience on each tree. If you pick up even one day early it may not taste at all. .Because I don't sell fruit  I usually let them hang on the tree couple more days after they ripe ! Then you can enjoy them !! Never pick them up early because Figs never ripe after you take them off of the tree! These are not apples or pears... If you have any questions, please email me I will gladly share my knowledge with you .
Truly yours,Eugene

After getting burned by our old friend (not) myfigsforfun on ebay I make a policy to only purchase ficus carica from forum members or established greenhouses with good reputations such as Raintree or Edible Landscaping. If I were a casual fig grower, as most people are, I would probably be happy for any old tree that produced decent figs, but since I am a bit more serious than that, as many or most of us on this forum are, I want to be sure I know what it is that I am growing and trading. Don't want to waste time or money on yet another mediocre fig.
