Semi-OT: The big box stores are killing me

Lowes/HD/Walmart...They've started getting in their spring selection.  I keep checking back every few days on my way home from work, hoping to score a couple 10-12 dollar gems.  I wouldn't mind snagging a black mission/LSU gold/kadota....heck, if they're getting their selections from Agristarts like Walmart does, maybe I could even find a petite negra or VdB (I can dream, right?)  Alas, lots of fruit, and even blueberries/blackberries, but no figs yet, even though 'tis the season.

On the note of blueberries, home depot is the one killing me.  I grow rabbiteye blueberries, but I'm looking to grow some southern highbush to lengthen my season.  Home depot was the only place in town who carried them last year, with a few good varieties.  Still...nothing this year yet.

I think the girlfriend is getting suspicious of me wanting to "run errands," especially since we may be moving soon and I'm not supposed to buy anything...

Are you sure it's the season in GA?  Don't you still have snow?  It's warm enough here in So CA, but the figs don't come in till April or May.

Don't do blueberries so can't comment on that.

Good luck!

Well, a little forum searching on "lowes" had figs popping up in February in both VA and TX around this time.  Never hurts to check, especially when I need to buy perlite/pots/everything else anyways.  The local nursery has them, but 30-35 bucks is a little steep for my blood.

As for snow, I haven't seen a flake yet this year :-/

Lowe's in Northeast Texas has Brown Turkey and Celeste 3-4ft $9.95
