I was doing a search for Figs from Calabria when I chanced on this video:

Wow!  Che bella!

Now thats how you make a video TYTY.

Figs? I didn't know there were any! Italian woman have nothing on the ones born here. La bella vita!

Hi Frank - great link!

I'm also interested in figs from Calabria (grandparents were from neighboring towns in province of Catanzaro).  I've got 8 varieties of fig trees growing, with 1 having Calabrese origins (a gift from a friend - it's from the town of San Donato di Ninea in Cosenza - the tree is now 2 years old and growing well).  If you're interested, I will happily send a couple cuttings to you of this one once it goes dormant.

Please let me know if you've got any Calabrese fig trees with potential cuttings for trade.

Ciao,
Joe Grandinetti

Ah to be young again, But of course to have the balance to walk that ledge and down the road to the fig trees .  ; )

Minga !

Bells'll ring ting-a-ling-a-ling, ting-a-ling-a-ling
And you'll sing "Vita bella"
Hearts'll play tippi-tippi-tay, tippi-tippi-tay.................

Boy, my face would be so itchy rubbing up against those leaves.

Hi Joe,
I have a black and a white Calabrese that will be ready for cuttings next Spring.
I took them from the same trees that I grew up around as a child while on vacation last year. They are from the province of Cosenza. I will be glad to send cuttings. What an incredibly great way to connect to one's heritage!

You know that in Calabria and possibly other regions of Italy, having grown up with fig trees generation after generation, the locals don!t really have specific names for the different cultivars. They simply describe them as to color and size, at least that is what a family member told me.

Hope to hear from you....

Frank

Hi Frank - I will send you a private message...thank you!  Joe
