September is a great month

My oldest tree is 3 years old, so I don't get many figs. I went home for lunch and looked at my tree and ate 2 ripe figs on the spot. I was going to wait until tonight, but the skin was cracking and begging to be eaten. I've already picked a couple since the beginning of the month and I have several more that should ripen in the upcoming weeks. Can't wait until I'm steady picking a handful of figs every day!

I know right. Sometimes I look at the pictures and despair of ever getting there. I'm sure we will but I want it now.
I'm really glad that you are enjoying a few though!

at age three, still few figs? sigh.this is gonna take me forever.

Frank...I agree, September is a wonderful month, and I'm glad your picking fresh figs off your trees, it only gets better from here on out...earlier in the season I didn't hold out much hope for a good harvest(wet, cold Spring and all)...but things really started to happen around the beginning of Sept....figs started turning color, swelling in size, softening up, and drooping on the stem...and before you know it the whole family was eating fresh figs, and in addition to that, Monday morning my wife and I were able to picked enough figs to put up a few jars of fig jam...everything was delayed by about two weeks compared to last season, but better late than never.

As they say, your mileage may vary.  ;)
Last year I got 6 total, including breba.  This year, 20 total, including breba.  We've eaten 6 or 7 out of 20 so far.  I'm hoping the rest make it.
I have a Bari fig tree that is just exploding with growth since I put it in the ground this June.  I've removed 10 figlets so far!  They appeared too late so I removed them for better root growth.  I'm hoping that's a good sign for a nice crop next year, assuming there's no die-back this winter.

That's great!  You really have to check the trees every day during this time, ya know?  Those bad boys swell up overnight sometimes!

Yet this year we had terrible weather + 3 over sized branches, 1st one gave me 15 cuttings, second one gave me 23 cuttings. I do not realize how big they really are until I cut them off. The last one I cut off was like a tree in it's self, and a tiny bit of wind was lifting it up like an umbrella on a windy day. Too much vegetation growth, and too much energy taken from the tree for it to fruit.  Good thing that I added nothing with nitrogen to it.

Alan,

I sure do hope you have better luck next year.  I'd be disappointed with that output.
