Sequioa & Sierrra Fig Variants

Anyone have any feedbacks on these 2 newer commercial variants ?

My only experience with them is limited to their good branching habits. No figs yet. In its 2nd season. I currently grow them in pot culture and have achieved spurts of good growth. I am certain it would have achieved better growth if I had up-potted it to 5 gal pot/larger from the current 2 gal one.

Paul,

I have both but they have not fruited for me yet.
But on my last visit to Adriano a couple months ago his Sierra was fruited for the first time this year. Sort of resembles the Excell but was not ripe at the time so I didn't get to try it.

I have both. Neither has fruited, though the Sequoia now had 4 figs on it, which showed up about 4-5 weeks ago. Both have been slow growing, so far.

I have sierra no fruit yet I like the leaves too.

I also have both, no figs yet.

I am wondering if anyone else has some "summer of 2012" feedback on the Sequoia variety?   I got fruit from mine and was very impressed.  It had a rich intense flavor and was chewy.  One of the best I have tasted so far.

This summer's temperatures were unbearable and the "summer dormancy", with the container grown plants, limits production and growth...

p.s.  They were devoured before I considered taking a photo!  I was also luck to have beat the birds this year.  They were out in full force unlike previous years of cooler and somewhat wetter summers.

Sequoia has been a slow one for me too. No figs yet but I have attached photos of the leaves to see if my tree matches others on the forum.

No figs yet.

Pit, are your Sequoia leaves consistent with the photos I posted?
Just curious.

Leon, using a flash light - it does look like my Sequioa tree leaves. Tree grew well in pot. Having figs. Not sure whether they would ripen. My tree came from Jon when he had the "few" available. Sure glad Ingevald got to sample them.

Thanks Paully. The leaves can get quite large and with long fingerlike lobes. The tree is elegant. It would be nice to see some photos of a ripe Sequoia.

Leon,
I attached a photo of my Sequoia.   Of the better developed leaves on my plant (the leaf on the far right in the photo), it does appear to match your photo.

Byron do you have any pictures of your Sequoia figs?

I did not get a photo - They were consumed before that was considered...

I just received a Sierra from a fine forum member Rafed as my reward for winning his contest. Looking forward to growing this one.

Bump. I realize there may not be photos available of the fig itself but those who have the Sequoia, could you please look at your leaves and let me know if they look like the photos I posted earlier? Thanks much.

I had both of them for two seasons. They never produced a single fruit, both were given away.

The fruit color is yellowish green and a reddish amber inside.   I did some searching but have not found a fruit photo yet.    Leon - a photo of the leaf from my plant is on posting #12 above.

Here is my Sequoia tree. Keep in mind these pictures of the leaves were taken minutes ago and it's begining to get cold at night. Otherwise this tree is very healthy with beautiful leaves.

Please enjoy this pictures,

Thank you Rafed. Your tree leaves look like mine.

All of these should look identical since they were all from the same nursery that I picked them up from.  Some had more hands they went through than others but they were all tagged.  They had hundreds left at the time but we're in liquidation mode due to the death of the owner and his widow had no interest in keeping things running as she was busy with teaching and raising kids.

they do look alike i been told

All of the Sequoia trees look alike, yes, but not Sierra and Sequoia.  I posted the details in the other thread about these two already, see http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/show_single_post?pid=1276013361&postcount=16
