Should "Fig Trees" Be Called Just "Trees"???

NBC Nightly News clip

Marketing wizards rise again...

I wonder if the marketing wizards think that when most people hear the word "figs" they confuse figs with another dried fruit (prunes) and think of constipation?  Unfortunately, for most people (at least where I grew up) their only experience with figs is through fig newtons and aren't even aware that you can eat figs fresh off the tree.

And Fig Newtons are now just Newtons. They changed it to "Newtons" because they have other flavors.

Ooop...NBC says
"Sorry, currently our video library can only be watched from within the United States  (Canadian can watch Hockey Nighy in Canada) ?

Perhaps if Sir Isaac Newton had sat under a fig tree, figs would get more respect.  ;)

There is something wrong with a grown man craving a Newton to eat. It just doesn't sound manly.

I can't remember the last time I bought fig bars (of any brand/non-brand).  But if they are around, I'll eat them :D

To my taste, Little Debbie fig bars are the best. They taste more like figs.
Try them the next time. I was surprised and maybe you'll prefer them too.

Years ago there was a local health food store that sold whole wheat 'newtons'. They had both fig and apricot. They both were excellent.

Newtons are one of the things I'd like to try making.

I don't like the sound of Berry Newtons, although I'm certain they would tast good. Seems to me the marketing geniouses messed up by messing with the Name. Can't they call them something else and leave Fig Newtons alone? Is nothing sacred?
