Should I do the shuffle?

My Kadoda fig still has buds opening up and browning leaves at the same time.
Should I be doing the shuffle?
We had some snow and cold weather here in Calgary, so I put it in the garage.
Right now its 10C and very sunny.
Should I put it out again and let the frost give it, it's cold kiss?
Will the buds be killed?

thanks,

Jerry

Hey there jerry

Personally, I don't think you need to play the fig shuffle in the Fall. Keep your figs out until the leaves drop, even if there is an overnight frost or two. There's no way a slight frost will kill your plant (IMHO). That said, once it's cold day and night haul your fig in, wrap it up, do whatever u need to do to keep it from freezing temps and wind damage. I just don't think a few extra days if in/ out really accomplishes anything. Leaves drop, bring in and put to bed.

Now in the spring! thats a different story.!

My figs trees don't have any figs on them, but I've still been moving them in and out.  If you're willing to put in the effort they'll get a week or two more of growing time.

I had young trees last year that I added about 3" of mulch to the pots. I then put them in my shed after the leaves dropped and gave them a little water every couple of weeks through the winter. They never missed a beat. I believe that with a tree that can be grown from a cutting, it's almost impossible to kill. As long as the roots are protected, there are no worries.

Thanks guys!

I left it out outside last night, no frost but cool.
It needs to go dormant and rest.

Again thank you,

Jerry
