Shout Out to Harvey/James & Friends

GM-172 from Harvey.

To date, this is the best fig I have tasted.

A couple have been very good but this was awesome.

While I have not had Preto, 258, or Madeira yet, this was beyond my (newbie uninformed) expectations.

Kiwi, sweet melon, with a plum after taste.

What a treat for a first year fruit!

Thank you for everything, everyone!

Congratulations Mike!
That's amazing growth for 1 year old tree!  Imagine how many of these delicious figs you will get next year..

Looks like a good one, Mike!  Lots to look forward to next year.

Your plants are so huge!

Mike, it looks beautiful. Where did you get the plants from?

He rooted them all! From cuttings, and I'm pretty sure they are all less than 2 years old lol

Almost all the plants you see were cuttings from Harvey, James and forum members.

Some were started in October/November 2015. Most were started December 2015-Early February 2016.

Mike

I have a couple new fig acquaintances I have recommended the site to.

Just updating so they can find the post and the figs we talked about.

Thanks, Mike

Anybody know how Gorgi is doing?  I wrote him quite a while back with no response.  I was very impressed with GM-172 last year and would like him to give it a nice name.

It was very impressive for a first year fig.

I shared one a couple days ago, two this year. A very nice sized, juicy, flavorful fig. A pot in New England no less!

Please say thanks for me. I am looking forward to experiencing a couple other of the GM types.

Mike

Wow you weren't kidding, those plants look great. What is your best producer?

My first year, so not many. I actually did not expect any.

Some plants have figs everywhere, nice sized too, but being the first year they will probably run out of time.

I did get to try 2-4 from several types; Hollier, GM-172, Saint Rita, Longue d' Aout, Rhonde Bordeaux.

Each was very good for a first year

I believe Doug named it already. I may be wrong though.

GREAT JOB  AND GOOD LUCK

I am not sure if he will catch this part of the thread, but if Doug is Bluemalibu,

I am pretty sure it has not been named yet.

I think if it is named, the GM-172 reference should be included.

I have never met one before, but.....

I can already imagine, now, how many women with fig trees in the future I will meet named Emalyn and Marylane.

Mike

Hi Tony.

Welcome to the forum and my addiction.

I told you this was going to be trouble, lol.

Mike

Looks great! You've got plenty of room for more. My advice is not to go any bigger on pots. It gets to be to much to repot. Loving your garlic!!

I thought you couldn't start root pruning until you hit 25 gallon pots?

I will check a couple for root development in the spring.

I am hoping not to do it until Spring of 18'

Mike

As soon as my roots touch the side walls I up pot, if I've got money for new would anyways lol. But I'm not past 5 gallons yet.
