Sign of life after brutal winter

All these tree planted in my yard without any protection. I didn't put mulch either. They are all first year in ground. I though I've lost all of them.
I found that almost all of them sprout from the root.

Jimmychao: Very nice to know that most of your fig trees survived the past winter. Congratulations.

Best,
Tam

Those, are Sal's EL, Sal's C, Hardy Chicago, Bronx White, Rosemary Purple, Antonio Black, Negronne, Petite Negri, JH Adriatic, Local Variety (New York Ave), Local Varity (Rhonda), Lyndhurst White, Fiorone di Ruvo, Green Ischia, Latarolla, Black Madeira
Unfortunately, Florea, Nero 600m, RdB, Brooklyn Hand Granade, Black Mission, Italian everbearing, texas everbearing, Kathleen black, Lemon, Brown Turkey, Wuhan, Golden Celeste, Kadota, Red Lebanese, Italian red, and more does not show any sign of regrowth (yet).

Hi jimmychao,
I would give them a 30 centimeters circle free of any weeds. Those are competing with the trees for light and nutrients - and of course that doesn't help the tree in their recovering .
I would put some slug bait as those creature can ruin those tiny sprouts ... Fertilizer + watering as always :). They will recover faster if you help/baby them a bit.
I would decide quickly how many stems/buds to leave for growing as reducing the number of stems/buds will help the tree grow bigger branches/stems in the coming season.

It is always nice to see a tree bounce back !
Wow, BT not bouncing back ! I would check for rodent damage !

Hi Jimmy!

Nice to hear that some of your fig trees are recovering.

I could also confirm that happens with my fig planted last year.
I have planted in ground more rooted cuttings of one or two years of various cultivars.
They had protection for winter, but they were killed to the ground level.
Now almost all are starting to sprout and look similar like yours.

Jimmy,
I sure hope the rest of your figs are still viable and sprout up soon.

A similar situation with 1-year-olds figs.

Vladis, what was your winter lowest minimum temp as you are in zone 8?
In my area, we had a mild winter, -16C lowest. Also, do you have cold hardy figs?
How about persimmons, there are new hybrids from Ukraine, do you grow them?

Can you send cuttings to Europe?
Thanks!

Jimmy I hope for the best for the others and am glad to hear you have life on the others.  I would not give up yet.  I had 16 in ground plants with most being yearlings all but 3 are putting out at this point.  I'm still hoping for those to put out as well.

Black Madeira survived? Wow! I thought they aren't too cold hardy and do best in containers in our zone?! I'd love a cutting of your survivor if ever you have to offer!
