SIP question

So I was up for another night reading about SIPS. I plan on doing a 2 bucket system.

But instead of using the plastic cup I'm going to use a hydroponic plastic net pot.

My only question is in all of these systems where should the drain go? Is the following picture correct?

The drain hole is to go below the platform/Bucket? Basically below the soil line in all SIP setups?

Right, just below the top bucket - you want a tiny space of air below the top bucket when the bottom reservoir is full.

Sal,
I would also line the cup with burlap to keep the dirt from spilling into the reservoir. That is what I use. The burlap is porous and is a great way of keeping your wick in tact. I have 6 x 5 gallon SIPs that I have made and they work great. I agree with Ed, put a 1/4" hole a bit below the top of your basket. That still gives you a very large reservoir.

Thanks guys... Its the one small detail that's usually left out. I was going to use nylon netting but I have a ton of burlap so I can use that.

A empty K CUP has a built-in filter. They have two different sizes too. I never made a sip cup l8ke this just a idea that poped in my head while reading threw this topic.

Even the refillable Kcup type would work also. When I get home I'll take some pictures of the netted pot I plan on using.. I think it was 1$ if that.. I might use 2. I plan on documenting the Build..

It might be best for me to try the system out on a tomato plant to see how many netted pots are needed to keep the soil moist. Also soil blends.
I'm using Pro-mix currently and plan on using Ocean Forest from Foxfarm because it will Wick the water better I think. Right now I'm using Foxfarm big bloom for my small cuttings. Soon I'll put them on Foxfarm Grow Big.

In the first link you gave me to FB what prevents the soil from going through the net?

I'll take a picture of what I built yesterday. Also I plan on using either ProMix or Ocean Forest from Foxfarms in the 5 gal buckets. What are you guys using in your mixes?

The best SIPs i've made were single bucket with an inverted Microwave cover (see image below) in the bottom.  I used a hole puncher to create more side holes in the microwave cover.  Cut a larger hole for the fill tube to go down in. put in a drain tube and done.  I think I posted pics of it somewhere here before.  If I find it, i'll link to it.

PS. Sorry that image is so large.  I got found these at DollarTree for $1 each.

Here's the previous link I was thinking about.  Just mentions how I made it, but no pics of how it's put together.

Here is the start of my sip minus holes on the bottom pail.. I hope the Net pot is big enough. I got it from a Hydroponic store

Here's a picture for size comparison

ThaiFig..I may play around with filling the net pot with Fine Cocopeat .. Its likes a sponge.

ThaiFig I'm going to do exactly what you suggest. I made 3 SIPS. I will use them all for testing before I plant in them. 1 will be used to experiment with what you suggested.  I assume if something is too wet add more Perlite? I'll take pictures this weekend.
