I am starting to gravitate to smaller fruited figs. I could be wrong, but they seem as if they are tastier, or perhaps less watery.
Which do you prefer, larger or smaller, and why?
What varieties of smaller fruited figs do you think taste the best?
Many have mentioned similar opinion as yours preferring small ones for the same reason.I am searching for the big size (at least two bites) fig that would ripen here and taste good too.I surely will keep the small size ones too because they tend to ripen early.
I like the small ones because they are a nice bite sized snack... one bite, throw the stem away, repeat.Celeste is the smallest (consistently) fig I have. I would say it is very, very good but not great. It is, also, the first fig of the season in Houston. ~james
Well !If you live in a climate with a long hot Summer, large figs will taste great and not water ,when ripe properly. Here in the nort east and other short Summer climates, with rain, they taste watery because The climate is not right for them to ripe properly.Small figs ,will ripe properly here but very few large fruited cultivar will do.
I tend to eat smaller fresh figs and cook with the larger types. I also tend to eat dark figs fresh, and cook with lighter ones. When I say lighter ones I mean the interior. It is about taste and for me I prefer fig taste and not over the top sweetness.
Bissiri Dark is an excellent smaller fig
Based on Flavor & after taste, my choice would be smaller figs. In my household the smaller figs gets eaten doubly quick.
BLB I do have a small specimen of Bissirri Dark will take good care of it.I agree smaller figs do much better in my climate taste better ripen earlier etc. For example Deanna is a large white fig and takes forever to ripen even when you think its ripe it is not. On the other hand Bianchetta much much smaller and ripens much quicker but then again its only a quarter of the size you have to eat 4-5 bianchetta's to satisfy your need's.
for me size does not matter. except I´d have to buy figs per piece for the same price...ronde der bordeaux tastes very good compared to others. very spicy, especially the skin. RdB fruits weigh 30-40g and have the size of a ping-pong ball.
What is this Bissirri Dark? I cannot find any information on it at all.
I like small figs. Seems like the flavor is more concentrated to me. Small and dark is a winner. Big figs just taste more watery.
Chivas, search the forum for Bisirri and you'll find a pic in one of the first results. (be sure to spell it correctly).
I feel stupid, I searched around everywhere except the forum for about a half hour. Thank you.
