Smith. Purchased from Just Fruits and Exotics in July 2011. These were harvested today (from a potted tree) before work sends me to the Northeast for a few days. As always, I need to sample a few more before I say anything conclusive however, I can that a) the stripes are nice and b) the texture is smooth, creamy but not pasty unlike any other fig I have ever eaten. Note. I ate these Smith just after eating the first Socorro Black of 2013 and the Smith was good. I like competition. Heaven and Earth willing, there are a few more Smiths that should ripen. Thus I look forward to giving them more time to wrinkle, ripen, and taste better. Though limited, there is good information about and excellent photos of Smith to be found on the forum [1][2][3][4].

They look so good.  This is one I'd eventually like to add to my collection.  Have a good trip!

They do look good but they don't look like Smith to me. You might want to do a search on the forum for other Smith pics and compare.

Thanks all. Barry, I hear you man and I did that search before I completed that first post (see the links [1][2][3][4] at the end of th post) because I was not expecting those stripes. You know how it goes for growing figs, there are many factors that impact growth, looks, and taste. Maybe it is an improved Smith and but I do believe it is a Smith. I have no reason to doubt it. I had cuttings from Noss but none not make it. Is there only one variant of Smith?

I was very fortunate to have been gifted a Smith recently ( again many thanks to this most generous member). It's young and I'm really looking forward to these.

Smith is one overlooked fig by many.  It is one of my favorite figs!  To me, it's pretty close to Black Maderia in flavor and taste.  Plus, it has that center cavity which holds a teaspoon of rich thick honey that just tast amazing!  In a pot, its a fast grower and need plenty of room to grow and produce.  Their appearance is not the best but man....the figs are flat out awesome!

for whatever reason, i always though Smith was a green fig. those figs look awesome.

my Smith from Encanto Farms is quite well loaded with main crop
figs. Very good chance we will get to enjoy main crop figs. Heard so
much about its outstanding attributes.

I have a young Smith that has a few figs on,weather permitting will be able to taste this fig,wanted this one for a long time,I believe this to be a great fig.Ciao,
