Smith 2015

The skin on this one is thick, I say this not to bash the fig, but to note for me it is hard to tell when it is ripe.  I was afraid one was going to spoil because of its looks and it was pretty soft...this was the most ripe one, and it probably could have sat longer.  The other two ended up only being passably ripe, but still good.

The taste of my 2 year old Smith is great!  Like most say, different than others in that it has something else going on, that is hard to put to words.  Creamy, rich, and I thought tropical tasting, lots of different notes, subtle banana and papaya, I don't know, but tropical and thick.

I thought the more ripe one equaled our Vista, a 9 out of 10, but my wife likes Vista more and rates Smith an 8, she thinks the skin is off putting because of its chewiness, where Vista is thin and melts in your mouth.  001.jpg  007.jpg

Beautiful Photos Don! Beautiful Fig too! : )

Looks good

Very nice. Looking forward to some of these next year myself.

Thanks, for the photo and review. Your wife will likely favor the smith when it becomes fully ripe. I am guessing the skin will soften and be less chewy.

Delicious looking fig!
Thanks for sharing.

Excellent looking figs. Congrats and thanks for sharing.

There's something to be said for a thick skin on a fig. The birds are going crazy trying to eat my Pete's Honey figs, but the thick skin makes it almost impossible. The figs a riddled with little peck marks. One poor bird ripped a section off the side and still couldn't get a bite.
I like to cut my figs in half or in quarters, so that's not a problem for me. Mom cut open a fresh peach for me when I was a little girl, and I'll never forget a little white worm on the pit inside. Ever since then, I always cut my fruit before eating it.

I love Smith. They are quite dark here up north. I find that the skin gets harder when I refrigerate them for a day. They are still really good. One of my top 3 figs I'd say, with Preto and Adriatic JH.
