Smith 7-30-14

Looks delicious

I've always heard Smith was an unattractive, but delicious fig.  Great report as usual Mike.

Excellent report. Like you have posted, Smith does well in the South and Newnan, GA is no exception. Keep posting.

I have a small Smith, and after reading of the similarity with TXBA1, I compared the two. They sure enough have the same leaf shape, though my plants have not produced figs to compare. My TXBA1 came from EL and has been stagnant for 3 or 4 years, until now, after planting in the ground. Now it is growing vigorously, but no sign of figs at all. I hope it is hardy in Zone 7, because I think it was listed as such by EL.

It's probably not going to be that hardy.  Zone 7 because that's what figs are, as a rule, not specific to varieties.
