Snow and More Snow

My fig plants are in a nice deep sleep most look pretty good, thought i heard a few snoring on other side of garage.  ; )
Meantime the Washington D.C. area  including parts of Philly and Baltimore gonna get a nice little wallop of snow again maybe as much as 12 inches it went south of my state and is gaining strength as Louisiana and Alabama are getting a heavy rain. Were just gonna get 3 inches or so near the weekend and Monday will brng us some more then the colder air will set in some more.
I sure hope we have a decent fig season though unlike last here and other parts of the country.
Keeping my hopes up.

Martin you crack me up with your descriptions. I went to my doctors office 2 weeks ago to bring him 2 fig trees nice 3-4 ft tall I placed them in their kitchen area as directed and they were looking at them with strange faces. I said they look dead don't they and 3 employees shook their heads yes. My response was they are just sleeping, at that moment Doc walked in to thank me and as I walked away I said to him you explain laughing the whole walk out of his office. That same day his office manager calls my home looking for fig trees so guess what, my next visit I will bring in some cuttings. If I have time I will start them for her and bring a few extras just in case others ask.

I don't know why but figs enter my conversations more often now and those that know what they are or remember them from younger days all ask for some. Go Fig- ure. Next time I go see Doc I'll ask him for a fix for my new addiction.

Martin, you're right about it raining in Louisiana. In about two hrs. it will have been raining for 24 hrs and the end is not in sight. This has been the wettest winter in a long time, but I'll take wet winters if it means no hurricanes. My trees are starting to rub their eyes and it won't be long when they'll be asking for coffee, er I mean sunshine. The low temp have been in the mid forties or better for some time now. It won't be long and I welcome it, hurry Spring. "gene"

Hi Gene,
i read the other day online they stated this season will be more active for hurricanes.
Not sure how that will pan out.

Martin, let`s think positive ,this will be long hot summer perfect for our figs :)
I think there is no way to be bad summer ,twice in the row !

haven't had 3 inches of snow yet (altogether) this winter.  Temperatures are pretty mild thus far as well.

Missing out on this storm as well.....

Why did I bother to wrap my figs this winter?

Geez Chill , Southwest Indiana has been getting clobbered with lake effect snow this winter north winds coming straight down the lake and bam, actually there not far at all from me just east on 1-80. You perhaps are north of union pier Mich maybe near Ludington or more east?
Oh the memories i had in the 70s partying on the beach with the big bonfires on the lake beach at Union Pier staying the weekends in the cottages,
but mostly sleeping the nights at the beach i was young and .....

Martin,

I can kick myself in the @$$.

Heading Back to Calexico, Ca.
I was southbound I-75 near Dayton, Oh. and deciding if I should go 200 miles out of the way to Birmingham, Al. and take I-20 west or should I stick with the plans and take I-70 to East St. Louis and take I-44 to I-40 and finish the way.

Well,
To make a long story short, I'm sitting hear in Cambridge City, In.. I-70 is shut down and this place is getting hammered.
At least I made it to the truck stop.

Chills I agree even here in Toronto we have barely got any snow this year and the temps have been rather warm. Even some of my dormant plants last years growth has not even hardened yet and they are starting to break dormancy.

Sorry to hear that Rafed, if you would have went the other way you would have just hit a lot of rain which i suppose can be hazardous cause of a few on the road that dont adjust accordingly but best of luck to you.

I remember a trip a couple years back (I have a son in RI and we do the winter trip bi-yearly) where the snow was so bad on I80 that we were going 10 MPH.  I pulled onto an off-ramp and we stayed in a hotel which was nearly filled with travelers with the same idea.  (it was mostly college students returning from points east).

At 10 MPH 6 hours sleep followed by being able to travel 50+ MPH the next morning meant that we likely didn't lose much time stopping.

I'm North-east of Detroit (and of Windsor, Ontario).  1/2 mile from Lake St. Clair (which means little to most of you, but gives rafed a good idea of where I am).

I actually wouldn't mind a little snow (I have a 5 year old who has never been sledding and he's been pretty patient)

:)
