Do you get snow every year Cecil or just once in a great while, just curious.
Oh and your um Hobbies should read growing not trying to grow fig tree's as your good at rooting them from pictures i have seen in past!

Martin

Martin,

We hardly ever get snow here, but it has snowed last year and this little bit of snow this year.

Now to something important,  About all I have left in my Super Duper heated Igloo is two Sal's Corleone cuttings and one VdB, all have roots but I want to give then a little longer to grow more!

My Guilbeau I almost think would have rooted if I had just put them on top of my computer desk, got 100% on them 80% on Sals C, and 80% on VDB
I put the cuttings after a 10% Clorox scrubbing then in the Fridge crisper as soon as I received them from Herman, they stayed in there one week,

I put 1/2 in spice trays with 50/50 Coarse V. & Perlite
The other 1/2 were in damp newspaper in Baggies!
The VdB rooted quicker in the baggies, the Sal's C & Guilbeau rooted quicker in the CV&Perlite

See told you on past you know what your doing! Now you have me wonder as i just use baggie method about the EL Sals that takes long to root if it would be shorter in the CV &Perlite, is CV vermiculite not sure what the C part of it is.
Anyways when i was loosing the dark portguese that i got drunk with grain alcohol a good hearted person sent me 2 long sticks that were green i was able to root them and now have 1 growing well with some leaves and 1 i sent to a retired co-worker in Missouri who has unknown and i forget the El Sals or Hardy Chicago i sent , he has a greenhouse on his farm there and grows a lot of different vegtables , fruits, and herbs, the herbs now he has some growing in greenhouse which he says is sectioned off some to keep it warm enough to grow them. Anyways i look forward to just what i get from UCDavis and i really dont have no more room anymore in garage to winter store them so i have to stop getting more types . Im trying to bring out of dormancy my Argentile little fig plant its in laundry room and i gave a little water and transplanted it in clear cup with clear cup on top for humidity, after it deforsted some the whole plant slid out of original cup so it was undisturbed, i never did this before as i never had such a small plant dormant and the soil was froze solid but it was in another container and i had put this n a packing box with some bubble wrap around it loose to help it but nevertheless soil still froze. Good thing though from what i have experienced with my older tree's a few years back perticularly the unknow is when they were harmed in early life the branches turned black , although this is only 1 stick in soil there is no black only brown towards near soil (normal) and towards tip i can see its some green on wood so there is hope. Im sure it slept long enough will see if it starts doing something in a few weeks. Im anxious for the UCDavis cuttings to arrive in couple months . The ischia black you sent that i cut all the leaves off has new ones growing , they look similar as before, im still nukeing it when soil dries to see if i can get it to grow faster. I tell you though i have put it thru a lot with all the hormones and vitamins and fertilizer and then chopping all the leaves off of it and its still alive! It may have that FMV bad but after all its been thru with me doing the above its alive and growing new leaves once again, im going to keep fertilizing the heck out of it i dont think that will harm it as long as i keep flushing it out , the last transplant i gave it i let the roots soak in that superthrive stuff that was after i chopped all its leaves off i thought this might do it in but noooooo its still some how living.
Martin

Martin,
The C stands for coarse,

Sorry about being to lazy to type "coarse vermiculite"

I'm glad the little B Ischia is still chugging along, BTW it was rooted in

Coarse Vermiculite& Perlite, it as you know had some killer roots, It was without a doubt the UGLIEST fig plant on this place..I'm glad you have the thing....HAHA.......some things will never change!;-)

Here is my Snow storm

My reply to your snow storm, remember though its all in fun.

i wonder what this quick cold did to trees planted in the ground in unprotected areas? what was the temp before the drop? are you in an area of high or low numidity?

Looks like we are getting this cold blast on the western side too. Some parts of BC will get 5 to 10 cm of snow today. Looks like this will put the brakes on the figs ripening to expectations. Just sorry to the southerners that we bless you guys with our cold winds.

Paully, nothing to apologize for. If we didn't get a blast now and then our seasons wouldn't change and our trees wouldn't get a rest. At least this way we always have something great to look forward to next year. It also give us a break from yard work, or at least most of it. Winters here can be nice, the bad ones are when its cloudy, damp and cold for an extended period of time.
