This light dusting of snow was about all I want to see here lol , but I'm sure there will be lots more in the coming months ! I hear ya - some areas just don't know what to do with snow , not getting it often at all.

The ground was covered this morning. I even seen my first snowman for the year today. Going to be another cold one tomorrow.

Woke to 4 inches of snow here today. Moved fig pots into storage yesterday. Supposed to be back up to 60 this weekend... Leaves had dropped a couple weeks past, at least. A couple fig bushes downtown still had their leaves on today, under a couple inches of snow, but not any figs up in elevation...

The last time I experience snow was thirty years ago in wisconsin. I spent two years there...what a beautiful country USA is. My eldest child was born in milwaukee. When I went to NYC last year it was early summer.

Hey Pattee, is this normal for your area? At what temperature is your porch? Is it enclosed?
Here in Charlotte, we got snow. It made the record books. I'm sitting here looking at my remote thermostats and it's 30 degrees in my shed, 34 degrees in my greenhouse, and 59 degrees inside my garage. I took the day off today to start winterizing some trees. This year, I only brought in a few:
Black Maderia
Ischia Black
Fico Preto
St Rita
Haikel
Yellow Lebanese
White Greek
Vaslikia Sika
La Goccia d'Oro
Col de Dam Gris
Marva Silka
and about 300 others, I can't remember them all...now do you see why I took the day off?
My GH is full but my shed is empty. I ran out of heat and daylight, plus it was snowing and I was starting to cramp up. I finally called it quits at 7PM. I've been up since 7AM. I's supposed to be 27 degrees in the morning but back to 60 degree days this Saturday. The wind is howling outside. I am so glad I took time off today to start this process. According to the forecast, we got more bad weather coming next week. Honestly, I'm glad the winter is here. It's going to be a bad winter this year.

LOL Steve , I didn't want to see it either ! Way to early for snow here. It was gone by late afternoon though. Temps were down in low 20's overnight. Today will struggle to stay in mid thirties! But it will warm up after today- more seasonal in high 40- 50's .Dennis , the porch is glass enclosed and not ground level which makes the floor really cold. So we placed tarps on the floor first then laid down thick, rolled insulation , more tarps and placed the smaller pots up against the house. Insulation is in rows around them and the rest increasing in pot size are all snuggled together. Yesterday evening I placed a tarp over the smaller ones also. Temps are in the 40's +/- but not too much higher. I'm really hoping that they do ok there. The 30+ gal. pots will be fine , it's some of the 5 gal and some smaller that I'm worried about. I can't get them all in the house and hope all our efforts will be successful. There are 60 pots out there . Others are in the windows in the house . I'm out of room in this house !! I can't imagine doing all this with your amount of trees Dennis !! We'd need more than a day lol!!

i have 4 trees out on the deck right now.. all at least 4 yrs old in 10 gal container. i'm hoping they were not damaged. there were no ice on the street this morning. no frozen anything. tho, the thermometer was reading 27. when i got home this sfternoon, i think i'll move them into the garage with others that i moved last weekend.

Thanks Pattee! I completely ran out of time. I had so many others that I wanted to place inside my garage but 1/4 of my gararge has bags of soil and unfinished whiskey barrels and 55gal barrels. I'm trying to prep some larger containers before Spring. Every year, I get behind and I'm trying to be a little bit proactive this year. I found a sweet deal and got shipment of food grade barrels for $10 each. I'm going to turn them into self watering pots. I got about 6 in my off site storage unit. I got 12 inside my 5x8 trailer and about 10 inside my garage. I left soooooooooooooo many trees outside unprotected. BUT I did cover up some 3 gallons with another pot. I could not afford to leave Maccol and St Rita outside unprotected. I may be getting some more land next year, wish me luck! My coworker just bought 30 acres with 2 story 4000 sq foot house, 4 car garage, 1000 sq ft workshop and an inground pool for $300k! What a steal! If I can get my wife to give me the green light, I'm going to find a deal like that! And right now, I need it!

Wow that was a steal !! Good luck on your quest. We're actually going to be looking into more land in FL . That most likely won't be until next year's end . Good luck with your quest and getting all your trees winterized !
