Sometimes digging in wet soil isn't such a good idea, Bob.  If you're trying to dig up a root ball, you've increased the weight you'll need to left by a great deal and there are still the roots to contend with.  I also could see the use of such a device helpful in digging up banana pups in which cases I find myself usually working in tight spaces and unable to get a shovel blade in very far.  Digging in muddy soil also leads to quite a bit of compaction.  It seems like you're talking like a wife telling us guys we don't need another tool! ;)
