So I'm trying a new potting soil

I've been using Pro-Mix for years. I came across Greenworld Grower Mix at Charlie's nursery. Looks just like Pro-Mix. 3 reasons why I like it. It's cheaper. Where I get Pro-mix it's $7.98 a cubic foot vs $6.43 for Greenworld. It's only about 10 minutes away vs half an hour. And the best part is, it's available in 2.8 cubic foot bags vs 3.8 cubic foot. My back loves it. It's the same soil Charlie's nursery uses. If it doesn't contain fungus gnats, it's my new potting soil.

KK,
I'm paying less then $5 a cubic foot for fafard #52 in 2.8 cuft bags and still love the stuff.
I did buy a 3.8 cut bag of promix just to mess with - but I'll stick w/ the farad #52.
I am going to add some biochar this year to certain plants as a test.

I'm not familiar with Greenworld but be careful doing the math when comparing the 3.8 cu.ft bags to the 2.8. Normally the 3.8 cu. ft bags are actually compressed bales that expand to roughly 7 cubic feet when broken up. The 2.8 bags are normally loose fill and contain 2.8. If you're paying around $30/bale for the Pro mix, it actually works out to about $4.35 per cu yard of loose mix in each bag.

Yes, it probably makes more sense to compare by weight but you also need to consider the moisture content.

Michael, I know we have discussed this before but where do you get your Fafard 52?  I know you get it in large quantities - do you have it delivered?

BTW, I use Metro Mix 865 (which is basically the same as the Fafard 52)  in the 2.8 cu. ft. loose bags.  It works well and is very convenient.  I use MM830 for everything else I grow and use a couple of full truck loads of that each year so just have them toss on a few pallets of the 865 when its needed.  Griffin Greenhouse Supply should deliver to both MD and NJ but I'm not sure of their pricing on smaller quantities or if you have to be a commercial grower to buy through them.  They are a distributor for all of the Fafard products.

Steve, I get it delivered at least 20 bags at a time.
It comes from Griffin in Richmond.
I'm happy to sell to you at cost if you want to come visit the new farm.
I am, now, in Batesville only 8 miles from Edible Landscaping and close to Monticello.
I haven't seen your mug since fall of 2015 - come visit.
BTW have you heard from Von lately?
