"dad, can i lick the fig?"

i said "why not just eat the whole thing?"

he replies "fig taste very sweet and super nice, but it's all mushy and nasty looking. i'll just lick it and you can eat it."

LOL sounds a little like my son too. He just wants to lick things when I ask him to try a taste of something

LOL

LOL, you'll never be able to look at a low-hanging fig again without thinking it's already been licked...

LOL. They are precious.

I've been trying like heck to get my five-year-old to lick one. He is very resistant to trying new things, but when he does he almost always likes them. He wouldn't even try a popsicle until the extreme heat of this summer. Now he wants one every five minutes. We're getting about 18 figs a day off the big tree and I know he would love them. I'm offering him one of my favorite foods, begging him to just try a taste and his response? "Dad, that looks HORRIBLE. I'm NEVER trying that!" Oh, the horror, the horror.

Most little kids will eat anything if there is some kind of dip!  Maybe set an example by toothpicking quarters, mixing brown sugar into sour cream for the dip, and see if he'll try that?

It's our favorite way to eat strawberries.  But first we dip into sour cream, then roll in brown sugar, then pop em into our mouths.  The blend of brown sugar and sour cream tastes a lot like cheesecake!

oh.. my 8 yrs old has put his food down long ago. only certain fruits. no veggies. according to him "i'm a carnivore".

My wife has an aversion to trying new food, a familial trait she shares with most of her siblings. I recently shared with her our very first fig, from a Violette de Bordeaux, which she resisted, but finally relented. "It was OK."

I am considering the event a complete success. Now on to the grand-kids . . . .
