So Very Very Tired of Mislabeled Trees

I purchased a tree a while back that was supposed to be LSU Purple. I have known for a several weeks that it was not (only after it was in the ground). Don't know what it is. Maybe BT. So this week I purchased my discounted "Alma". Nice looking tree, and enough figs to bend the branched down (on a nursery tree). Friday morning I pulled out the complete unknown, and planted my "Alma" in that sunny spot. Flash forward a couple of days, plus some pretty good rains, and I see one of the larger figs on this new "Alma" is starting to split. Looking closer, I can see red pulp inside!! So, how can this be an Alma? It looks like I replaced one mislabeled tree, with another mislabel tree!! Really frustated! Here are a few pics on my new "Alma" for whatever it is. It is a little under-ripe, but it was splitting so I picked it. I do plan to contact the wholesale grower to see they can tell me what it is. Anyone here with an idea? CliffH. Green Ishia/verte would be my guess. Mine has the same leaf pattern. It's a common green fig with red interior. __________________ (Zone 12a) Big Island, Hawaii, 2,400 ft elevation, Fern Forest. Avg. July High 77,Avg.Jan.Low 56 Precipitation days 290, annual rainfall 201.80 inches.

Hi Cliff The frustration on this subject is never ending. My recommendation is to try to buy from forum people. You have the best shot of getting what you are hoping for through real fignutty people. Yeah, I can empathize. I would love a Green Ischia that grows. My TC from Wellspring just has never done well. Others I got from there doing fine. That's a nice looking fig! __________________ Zone 7A ~ Fort Smith area Arkansas

I empathize as well. I have a Strawberry Verte that I have been nursing along for 3 years. It finally makes fruit this year. Lo and behold, the fruit is yellow with a carmel colored inside - NOT SV! I am not happy, but what to do? I do understand about growers and nurseries. My father was a nurseryman and landscaper, and I worked in at least half a dozen nurseries and garden centers as a teenagers and in college. This was not a single tree. There were 20+ trees labeled "Alma" at this nursery. They all looked the same, and none of them were Alma's (as I have discovered). I called the nursery and e-mailed the wholesaler about the error. The nursery offer to take the tree back, but I already planted it. I have heard nothing from local wholesaler, and I am not sure that they were the actual grower. All that I was asking the wholesaler for was help in identifying the actual variety better.
