So you think it's hard putting your potted trees away for the winter?

Take a look at this

Kudos to that guy!

I can relate to all that digging.

Great video Dave.

That's amazing. I feel so spoiled here in So Cal.

I tip my hat to all those who go to these lengths for figs.

Oh my god, I would have to get some heavy duty equipment. I am originally from New Hampshire so I know cold.

Wow I cant imagine having to do that every year! but I can understand the love for the fig trees. Thanks for sharing

Now that's passion right there.

Wow! That's commitment to your passion. God bless him!

Talk about expending lot of energy just to keep your figs safe for the winter. If I had inground figs I'd probably wrap them or build an insulated cage around them. That just seems exhausting to do every year...

That is impressive. I don't think he digs the big hole entirely out every year though. It sounded like in the beginning he said he dug that hole 14 years ago. He has the big 2 on each side and I'm guessing  uses something to make a wall to the inside of the hole and fills in around them. None-the-less, still a whole lot of digging! I do find it interesting that he entirely digs out the root ball instead of hinging it on some intact roots, maybe he just did it that way this year because he wanted to swap them around.

Jesus! Talk about Fig Love. my my...

Dedicated figgers....and resilient trees as well to survive that annual process.

That was great!

I guess this family has been doing it for quite a long time.  There are a few generations involved there.

I think I would just build a movable greenhouse....

I would not do that with a single fig tree. My getting ready for winter consists of stepping up those ready for larger pots and then going into the house, Done! Any effort anywhere close to this is walking the Gulf beach, rod in hand, looking for Pompano.

Thats an amzing amount of work and love. Looks like he put them down pretty early to. Why would you not wait until they go dormant? He's also very fortunate to have free labor all day to get this done. Great video by someone who obviously loves his figs..

Now, that's love !
But why is he not conducting his trees shorter in a small fan shape ? Probably his cultivar does not allow for, but ...
How come those trees don't have tap roots ? While moving, I had to move my first figtree and that tree had 3 tap roots sinking down at 50cm/2' . The ax did the job.
I did not have such nice little roots like that guy. But probably digging up each year would drive the trees to make such thin roots ...
Now, we still don't know what kind of figs those are .
