Soil ph level

I got myself one of those soil testers, and it says my soil is neutral at 7.0. I read that the soil should be around 6-6.5, so my question is should I adjust the soil in my potted fig? If so, what is the best way to go about this

I've always seen that figs like a neutral ph. Between 6-8 is fine and between 6.5-7.5 better.

I wouldn't mess with it.

If you wanted to lower it, you could add some sulfur (slow) or ammonium sulfate or aluminum sulfate or sulfuric acid (fast) but I would think it could potentially cause more issues than it's worth.

Reducing your water ph with vinegar could be a temporary test.

Thank you for the response Don. I will leave it be for now, but will definitely make note of your suggestions to lower the soil acidity, should I ever need it in the future. Thanks again

You could also add some lime to lower ph.

Not to be argumentative but I'm pretty sure lime raises ph.

Quite a few fig growers do add lime to their mix though. I did.

I'm wondering what kind of mix you are using in your pots where you would have a neutral pH?  Most mixes have a bunch of peat moss or similar stuff.  Peat moss quite acidic.  Are you using soil in your pots?  If you are using some sort of commercial potting mix, or some homemade stuff that's a lot of peat moss or pine fines, it's hard to imagine a non acidic pH.

Not sure what method you are using to test the pH, but very often the test strips or the meters are inaccurate.

Either way, neutral is OK.  When you pot up, if you use pine fines or peat moss, you'll have a mix with a lower pH for next time.

I wouldn't recommend using soil in your pots, if that's what you are doing.

I'm using MG moisture control potting mix which supposedly has plenty of peat in it

I wouldn't try to mess the with the pH.  That stuff is engineered to be in the 6 to 7 range.  Probably your measurement tool or method isn't accurate.

That's what the test result is exactly 7.0.. i was just wondering if that was a good number to be at. I searched and found some old posts on here, but still wanted to get a little feedback from you guys. Thank you all for replying I appreciate it

Sorry, I meant lime raises the ph and decreasing acidity.
